with all eye candy on, it will crawl on 1gb ram...you need 2gigs of ram to run vista smoothly with all eye candies on

who told u that, stop assuming wrong things. i am running vista atm on a 2800 socket 754 / 512 mb ram ddr400 & a 6600agp with full eyecandy. it runs super smooth without any problems & also the games run perfect with all the eyecandy on in the background.

1 GB RAM is good enough, but a low end graphics chip is not. On a E6300 @ 2.14 GHz, 1GB DDR2 Transcend RAM @ 766 MHz and a Leadtek 6200TC, which I setup for my Sister, Vista gave a overall performance rating of 2.2. The UI was slightly sluggish @ 1280 x 1024, but not too bad either. The bottleneck was the Graphics card. individually everything else got a good enough score. With a 6600 class card it should run fine.

so i mean 1gb is just the bare minimum to make vista run properly with all eye candy on.

@nemesis: the ram that u have is OCed, so faster. I was talking about DDR 400 and also u have a dual core proccy while i have A64

i dont know what u are going on about hotstuff. are u reading this thread or no. I am running Windows Vista on a 2800 socket754 (single core), 512 ddr @ 400 (2.5-3-3-8), & 6600 agp 128mb. Vista runs perfect & super smooth with all the eye candy on. YOU DO NOT NEED 1GB BARE MINIMUM TO RUN VISTA SMOOTH WITH ALL EYECANDY, IT RUNS FINE ON 512MB ALSO AS U CAN SEE..

As I said, The main bottleneck for Aero seems to be the Graphics card. A decent single core proccy with 512MB and a 6800GT should give better performance than a Core 2 Duo with more than 1 GB RAM but with a low end GPU like 6200 or 5200 series.
