I'm configuring a Dell M6400 Precision Covet for a client with a Core2Quad, 16GB RAM, Dual 500GB HDDs Non RAID etc.

My client is really interested in getting a SSD as a primary drive. I was wondering if anyone knows which SSD Dell uses for the M6400s so I can make an informed ;) recommendation based on performance/ longevity? Price is not a factor.

What does the configuration sheet say? If it's a "Dell Ultra" drive, they're re-branded Samsung SATA-II SSDs that were launched sometime back in February.

Specs: Read- 100MBps, write- 80MBps

The "Dell mobility" models are whatever MLC drive happens to be cheapest during the week and is in stock.

It's just mentioned as a Solid State Disk SATA hard drive, no mention of Ultra or mobility.

Got a link to the configurator on Dell India? I couldn't locate one on the product page.

On the US configurator, the 64GB option is the ultra drive while 256 gigs gets you the mobility drive.

No configuration possible on the Dell India site. I configured mine with a Dell rep who's on leave right now. I think hardware will be similar for both US/ India sites. Any idea on which Samsung drive it is for the Ultra?

Edit@gforce: Gotta spread some reps! What did I rep u for???

Performance hit when using the ordinary MLC compared to the faster SLC:
