Laptops Dell or HP

mk151

Adept
I am planning to get a 14.1 laptop. Have narrowed it down to Dell 1420 or HP Pavillion 2519TU :

Specs and rates are :

Dell 1420

5250 C2D
2 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
1280X800 Tru life
Vista Home Premium
8X DVD Drive
9 Cell Battery
2MP Webcam
X3100 Int. graphics
Complete cover

Price : Rs.48000 incl taxes

HP 2519TU
Same as above except :
6 cell battery
VGA Webcam
Fingerprint reader

Price : 50000

What should I get of the two in terms of quality, performance and durability.

Thanks

Go for dell only if u are planning to upgrade to nvidia 8400m GPU... even if u are not into playing games, then it will help in playing hi def videos......

Hp has better looks imho, and is also slimmer.... plus u dont have to wait 20-30 days as u have to do with dell.......

also dont get taken by the "2mp" vs "VGA" webcam thing...... anyway it will be used mainly for video chat and not snapping photos.....

also chck out hp special edition 2600 series.... priced at 51k and comes with Nvidia 8400 gpu

or even hp Dv 6516, but it is 15.4 incher

quality and performance ... is a bit of difficult

But fit and finish is better on HP, The imprint finish will last u a long long time... I have been using fr a yr, no problems, no scratches.....

Dell 1420: it is good but if u go for any other colours then default mat black ( ie microsatin finish) I have heard it starts peeling off...

performance will be same if same components are there, but dell will be marginally better.. dont ask me why ;) they always have better pcmark and 3dmark scores.......

Screens surely HP has better ones.... No light leakage, saturated colours and much brighter then dell ones....

sound both nice.....

Both come with travel remote.... the only difference is that dell's mediadirect works without booting Vista....

In HP "quickplay\" was supposed to be same thing but It does not work as well in Vista,,,, u have to wait for the whole OS to load before u can play anything.....

In the end, If u ask I will suggest imho go for Hp.... It looks good and that is a big advantage

Hello

Thanks for all your help.

Actually, HP doesnt come with a 9 cell battery and as I travel 5-6 hrs at a stretch, the 9 cell may come handy else looks wise , Hp blows Dell away.

Also, I was talking to Dell Sales rep today who was pushing me towards the Inspiron 1520 which is priced at Rs43000 for above config.

Any idea regarding weight of 1520 ??

Thanks

dell 1520 with a 9 cell battery and a 85 watts adapter (thatz the only option u got) is very heavy......sometimes I even fell I might just topple over backwards when put in a backpack...haha..but I dont travel at all and hence I opted for the same.......bottomline.....if u want extended battery life and your a frequent traveller.....get an ultraportable....my suggestion, the 13.3 incher XPS M1330.......sure costs more, but is worth the price.

Buddy Hagglle!!!!

u'l be able to get the price down to abt 43k..
And thats a lot!!!!
Will totally kick out all the advantage that hp has..I got a better cpu , graphx card than u, @43k...
jus dont relent,, keep bargaining and try more than one sales rep...That is jus ImpeRAatiVe!!!!!!

Have finalised the Dell 1420

Dell 1420

5250 C2D
2 GB RAM
160 GB HDD
1280X800 Tru life
Vista Home Premium
8X DVD Drive
9 Cell Battery
2MP Webcam
X3100 Int. graphics
Complete cover
90W adapter
Rs.43000/-

Hope its the right choice. Thanks for all help and suggestions.

Thanks again.

Good choice! Seems you didnt get much of a discount. and you did not opt for the NVIDIA GeForce 8400 (3.6K extra!!) which is actually not much of use - gamers really require much better hardware - and just the GPU won't do!!!

Also the TruLife screen seems to be a glossy screen (read some forums - frankly not seen it!), which is less preferred to over the matt-finish general screen by those who work long hours!!

Good choice - I should repeat!! Congrats!

my friend ordered an inspirion 1520

T7250

160 GB

2 Gig Ram

8600 GT 256 MB GPU

similar config hp dv95xx was atleast 20k more

Hello

Got a discount of 3500. i.e. 1850 vat +1700. Forgot to write earlier, its coming with wireless ear buds and he also gave me an option for a bag or a 2gb pen drive. I opted for the pen drive.

Thanks again

hp laptops are carry in.. unless its the business model wher im not so sure.

and yeah nice config man!! congrats!!

I personally prefer onsite warranty which is why I recommend Dell everytime.

Who the hell wants to make the rounds of the service center in case of trouble.

Yes, I can confirm that. Was planning to get HP Pavillion 2419 TU. The dealer confirmed that its a carry in warranty and in smaller cities excl. metros and like, repairs could take upto a week.

One of the reasons I went with Dell. Known for very good service.

Any idea if they hold an International Warranty?
I guess tht Dell has Carry-In International warranty..is tht right?

and what about hp international warranty?
