GSM/3G should work in India. have no idea how this phone can be unlocked though.
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1700 / 2100

for 3G we use the 2100 band. T-mobile uses 1700 for 3G.
