Laptops Dell XPS 15 GPU driver problem

Hi,

I have Dell xps 15,gt 540m.Erlier i had installed nvidia driver 280.26....It was fine for the new games, but some older games like far cry 1.Some times it freezes..

So, i called Dell rep. They advised me to install older driver from their site version 268.26..So, i Did that, now in older games the freezing issue is gone, but the new games like dirt 3 started giving problems... on gpu benchmark test of dirt 3 it shows avg fps 34, but minimum fps 24.....Earlier on 280.26,i was getting 44 avg and 35 minimum...When i tested using msi on screen display,, it also, showed similar results..

This too is ok with me,as older version will give lower performance, but.. the most important thing is that,,While playing the game the sudden chage in fps, makes it very hard to play the game properly.. 24fps is not too low but the sudden change causes hiccups in game and misjudgment of controles.....The sudden fluctuation of the Frame rates is the problem..

So, what should i do here Please advise...

cause your gpu is heating up very high, that it might reduce the frames rate and slow down the cpu due to overheating at laptop issue, so make sure buy laptop fan cooler best brand like Cool-master Belkin and few thing or if your have an A/C room so make sure place the laptop under the heavy book at any table and check out the frames rate if playable :)

the temp is normal for dell xps under full load.....Its max 82 c...On driver 280.26,,I used to get around 94 c..Then also it was giving a lot better performance...Now even at 80 c its giving poor performance......

U can check, the video with 280.26 driver from my latop, it was very smooth @ 45 fps...

Dude, The XPS 15 laptop series is having problems in India

After many replacements, still my issue is there

They are now sending a new battery too.. If that doesnt work, they are ready to replace my laptop

I have similar issue, add to that, my brightness reduces on its own in Battery mode ... :(

Have u tried far cry-1 with new drivers...??

This is only game giving me problem with new drivers, new games do fine on that..Only if i overclock around 800/1050mhz even new games give me problems.....

There are no problems as such in India, just because you have an issue it doesnt become a National issue.... its all numbers game say if i sell 1000 machines and have 100 machines with issues its 10% failure rate, where as if i sell 10 of other model and have issue with 1 machine its still 10% failure rate, so that numbers can be misleading but the percentages dont.

The brightness will automatically go low on battery to conserve battery power, to get get rid of that ... from BIOS >Video > Brightness change to 100 and do the same to brightness (AC), disable ALS

@OP check with the adapter connected, what battery are you using?

Off course your battery is going to get less in battery mode . This is how it works .

And your battery has failed IMO . Hope your problems get solved .

Dude... My friends have 2 XPS 14 and 1 XPS 15.

Each one face one problem or the other. I just told so on my experiences and my point of view.

BTW Being a Dell user since past 6 years, Never have I faced an issue with any laptop/series.

Based on our usage and scenario, Me and my friends are facing issues.. We use it about 2-3 hrs at a stretch and give rest for a while before starting again just to see it. Actually MY Friends XPS 14 laptops have less issues. But my other friends XPS 15 L502x had actually a Faulty Display and Mobo..

Dell Replaced it as they checked it. After that it was like fine for him.

My old laptops and Desktops(ALL DELL) have never got issues with anything.. I took CC for all and never even replaced anything. I have even checked other forums like notebookreview to see the problem and yes. Some users face problems.

Though my problem still hasnt been rectified

BTW If you see my problem live you will know

I have tried all Even the Method people suggested above . 3-4 engineers who came tried alot to rectify, but couldnt till date

On Monday another is coming to check it out.

I am telling that some batch may have a problem and then they will rectify it

Nothing meant to be personal. I am talking about how Dell Laptops are right now and back then.

There was no 2nd lot or 2nd batch on those models, there was just a single lot.... if it was an issue with the model, how did replacing the laptop fix the issue, as even the replacement machine must be belonging to same single lot ???

Any Answers ??? the way i look at it, there must be some faulty part on the machine which wouldnt have been replaced till date and the new machine obviously having a functional part fixed it

May have been dude... His L502x hasn't faced an issue after that till now.

He actually booked it as soon as it released in India..

So, I thought it maybe a case where the first lot that left might had some issues. That iss it.

Dell is India's No.1 Laptop Manufacturer and that doesn't mean there are no issues dude.

Anyway to the point at hand.

@OP Just try without OC.

OC might have been an issue. Just try without OC normally.

I Haven't OCed it, but as you did, just try without OC

I have been asked by the dell rep to reinstall the system..And turn the update windows off ...so, after installing service pack1, i have turned it off, no problems so far, but lets wait and watch...He also told me not to install far cry or dirt 3...will do the same and hope its solved.....

And guys please don't stray away from the topic.....

Its doning fine..I think the problem was because of some windows update....I didn't think that, windows updates w'll be so much dangerous,to give a blue screen....From now onwards w'll only install the most important & tested updates only....
