Linux Deluge downloading more than the torrent size

The screenshot should be self explanatory ..

That used to happen with me too when I used Deluge.

But most likely its got to do something with the verification process only.

EDIT: Transmission was no different either. Its usually when one pauses & resumes torrents frequently that extra verification information must be added each time that leads to an increase in the downloaded size...although eventually that information will be dropped off and the file will work as originally intended.

Check for the tab which says Hashfails/Wasted Data ( if it is there in the details).

Could be possible that extra download is due to either hash fails or discarded/wasted data.

Figure mentioned under the Hashfail/Wasted data might explain the extra download you see in the download client.

**Discarded data is the unwanted data sent to you by a peer whereas Wasted data is a combination of discarded data and bad data.

** More elaborately, Every piece you download is checked against a hash. If the hash fails verification, the data is discarded and requested for download again. The 'Hash Fails' tab shows the number of hash fails in terms of MB/GB.

Basically seems like client is throwing out either unwanted data or data which it is not able to verify against.

also see if you can enable protocol encryption (preferred/optional setting not "required" setting) and also IP blocklists (like peerguardian2) so that you are not getting garbage data from the media companies :D

As far as i know the protocol encryption blocks the throttling attempt of ISP’s from shaping your traffic and IP blocklists is a step taken to avoid being detected by ISP that you are receiving torrent traffic.

There is something wrong with this torrent or your torrent settings. Hashfail/Wasted data should not be more than 1-2% of total download size. there is much more.

* Did you try "Force Recheck" option?

* Try opening this torrent in another client like tranmission and see if same behavior persists.

Can you reproduce this behavior on other torrents as othan this ubuntu torrent to make sure, something is wrong with client itself? If yes, then you should report this behavior to deluge Bug tracker.
