Hi there,

A freind of mine is planning to buy a 42"plasma from grey market. Hes on a budget and needs good vaule for money. He is OK with dealer warranty. Hes settled his eyes on Panasonic 42X30D.
Are there any other places, apart from Alphas at andheri ? Please suggest.

Thanks !

Heeranpanna aint dependable nor will you find many plasma selling shops there.
best dependable i would say is alfa near irla vile parle.Other then that your only option is lamington road.

Better to go to any "small time" recognised electronics shop than the "grey-market"..... you can always bargain upto 20-25% off on the MRP (esp if u also have an old TV for exchange).

Recently, I read somewhere of a guy having problems with a plasma picked from Alfa. I have nothing against Alfa as I will prefer them for Camera's/Lenses/Mobile Phones.......... BUT not large screen TV's !!!!

Grey-market is no guarantee for getting a factory-sealed product.

True, but the price is too tempting. We recently visited Reliance Digital and they has listed the same model (Pana 42X30D) at 36K odd. Usualy these "small time" shops dont have models in stock, they procure it from "whoever". We been hunting these too!

"dependable" and "grey market" will never go together....
Like @terence_fdes said look for individual shops in your location and bargain tight with them.
I bought my TV from Jumbo. I got a best price from a couple of shops and then bargained with Jumbo. They matched the lowest price I got with an additional 500 discount. :)
Earlier I was also planning to get my TV from BGK but then thought it was not worth taking the risk as I could not afford spending 50k on repairs if this thing failed :)

small time shops usually procure their supplies from "local stockists/suppliers" or "directly from the company" or from other neighbouring shops in their vicinity (of course they would be happy even if they get a minimum Rs500/- commision) for a quick deal.

grey market dealers in such products sometimes pick up their stuff from - "seconds" lots [slightly damaged/scratched or any other minor flaw & kept aside by the manufacturer and sold for 20-30 per-cent lower than the MRP]

Lastly, it is possible you could get a good deal in the grey - ONLY see if you can check the set thoroughly (carry a pen drive with some 720p/1080p videos/images etc) and lastly see if all controls are working fine

Cheers
