Graphic Cards Desktop Diagnostics & Support ( Gurgaon )

Hi,

This is probably in the wrong section but I'm facing an issue with my desktop. On plugging in the GPU, the entire system revs up and immediately powers down. The system i.e. refuses to start with the GPU plugged in. However, without the GPU, the system boots fine by itself.

I am guessing its due to either, a bad PSU, a bad GPU or a bad mobo. I am trying to figure out which but since I don't have other desktops at my disposal I'll have to rely on vendors for support. The closest reliable vendors I know are in Nehru Place and I'd rather not travel as far lugging my huge box with me through two metro lines (Huda to CST, CST to NP)

Hence I'd like to know if there are any reliable desktop support guys in Gurgaon that may be able to check this issue out? If so, where in GGN may I find them?

Details on Specs:

GPU: Sapphite ATI 7850
PSU: Corsair GS600

Also, please note that the entire system was working perfectly until a few days ago when it decided not to.

This is most likely a PSU issue. Would suggest to try to power it up barebones - no drives or USB devices except the keyboard and mouse connected, check bios. See if it boots up properly. Try to isolate the component which gives the issue. Then try testing at a friends place - you will know whether the GPU is the issue. Else, its the PSU.

I tried booting the system barebone including without the GPU, everything boots fine. Add in the GPU and the system revs up and revs down. I don't have anyone I'd know who have a desktop let alone capable of using and powering a standalone GPU. The banality of whoring yourself in the corporate world is one where every one is either too old or too uninterested to own such gadgets anymore.

I hear you :P

You can rip out both your GPU and PSU and hook them up in another PC.This is a labour intensive process but seems to be the only option since no one in your acquaintance has a beefy PSU.
AFAIK the GS600 is one of the less stellar gems from the Corsair stable.

You can also do one thing. You can get one of these MOLEX to 6 pin connectors.(Sapphire sometimes bundles these with their cards.)
Convert one of the MOLEX adapters in your friend's PC(with his generic/low powered PSU) and try to boot up the PC to find out if the GPU is the problem.Just dont try to run any heavy stuff on the GPU as the generic PSU might not be able handle it

Let me rephrase. Folks have moved on to consoles and laptops. The only desktop I have access to are the ones @ office and they don't even have a PCIe slot. I'd have tried the things you mentioned but they were all struck down given my circumstances which is when i finally decided to look for a local shop in GGN who would understand these basics and help me debug.
