CPU/Mobo Desktop OverHeating ???

My Desktop has been overheating and causing shutdowns when playing Games,Recently was playing Crysis - Warhead and Mafia II and it automactically shutdown

This never happens when surfing the internet or downloading via utorrent or even using my Graphic Softwares like Photoshop and Illustrator

The Games seem to be giving load on GPU or my CPU? I have a ATI HD4850 and PC config. is the one in my signature
Right now i have my side Bezel off to throw in some air

This never happened before when playing games
I think might be coz of dust ? or do i need to apply a new thermal paste ?
Pls Suggest ?

My temps with HD Monitor -

Please run prime95 and see which one of TMPINs varies most. That should be the cpu temp. TMPIN0 looks too higg but perhaps sensor is absent or incorrect.

Strange but my machine shutdown automactically when running the Prime95 Test

Is my SMPS under fault ?

It's hard to blame VX450. I think it might be cpu temps then. Perhaps there's a setting in biostar bios to shutdown machine if cpu temp reaches a limit. Check that limit. Then perhaps run your machine as dual core(550) and see if the problem exists.

in the "Phenom II X4" column the temps are too good to be true!

1c-10c!!

i think that the unloocked cores aren't stable enough for normal use

you may try applying thermal paste and relocking the cores to dual core in bios

thenn check the temps again

i have heard that the temperature sensors over the defective cores are defective too and show ridiculous temps between -49c to 250c

Okay, If this never happened when you switch to Dual core mode you can be rest assured it not the PSU. Might the last thing anyone would suspect anyway.

Clearly a case of a very unstable Quad that was born outa of a dual. Switch back to dual core :-)

I have been using this desktop for the past 1 year and have been playig a lot of games,it never happened back then if it was a prob. with the unloacked cores

But wth,i'll give it a shot !!

I'll have to try that first coz if it were for the unstable cores then my machine will shut down when im rendering heavy images in C4D or using Illustrator/Photoshop

But i'll give everything a shoot that has been suggested :)

Dual Slot HD4850???

Try setting the fan speed MANUALLY to 70% before playing a game(u wont notice the sound if u turn up the volume)

Okay it's weird that nobody has suggested this already, but check your bios log. If there was a thermal trip then it will be there in the log! ;)

Your Graphics card temperatures look okay to me. TMPIN0 is most probably the northbridge It's on the higher side but nothing insane.

I'd recommend that you open up your pc and keep a table fan blowing directly at your motherboard. And then do whatever it is that you do,if it still shuts down check the CPU heatsink to see if it is clean and seated properly.

Iam gonna clean up my cabinet, looks like maybe the dust is jacking all the heat up ?

I'll also have a look at my BIOS Logs

--- Updated Post - Automerged ---

Ok now this is what i did,

Opened up the system tower did a complete clean removing all the dust from the GPU/CPU/Heatsinks/RAM/All fans

Connected my PSU cable directly to the wall socket instead of the power strip/Surge Protector

Started the computer

I could easily play my game without any trips for like 1 hour 15 mins

So i think its the spike guard/PowerStrip causing the prob ? Isn't letting the PSU provide enough power when the system is under load ?

Thoughts ?
