The really fascinating thing here is the design of that daughter die. Feldstein called it a continuation of the traditional graphics pipeline into memory. Basically, there's a 10MB pool of embedded DRAM, designed by NEC, in the center of the die. Around the outside is a ring of logic designed by ATI. This logic is made up of 192 component processors capable of doing the basic math necessary for multisampled antialiasing. If I have it right, the component processors should be able to process 32 pixels at once by operating on six components per pixel: red, green, blue, alpha, stencil, and depth. This logic can do the resolve pass for multisample antialiasing right there on the eDRAM die, giving the Xbox 360 the ability to do 4X antialiasing on a high-definition (1280x768) image essentially for "free"â€â€i.e., with no appreciable performance penalty. The eDRAM holds the contents of all of the back buffers, does the resolve, and hands off the resulting image into main system memory for scan-out to the display.
Given that the RSX is based off of NVIDIA's G70 architecture, you can expect to have a similar feature set later this year on the PC. In fact, NVIDIA stated that by the time PS3 ships there will be a more powerful GPU available on the desktop. This is in stark contrast to ATI's stance that a number of the features of the Xbox 360 GPU won't make it to the desktop for a matter of years (potentially unified shader architecture), while others will never be seen on the desktop (embedded DRAM?).
Whenever a new console has released, sony has always spread FUD. Its the same this time as well. By the time the systems arrive, pc graphics cards would have gone a long way ahead .
Lolz Dc the same applies to Xbox 360 also U thought they ship the extra controller and the memory cards, no way ! Btw with the next gen consoles they costs are likely to increase. Add a HDTV + 5.1 speaker set to it if you want gr8 sound quality and picture. Plus since the console makers normally lose money on the hardware they are going to rip ppl off more on the games and licensing.Darthcoder said:Read this somewhere..
PS3 Console = $450
1 Extra Wireless Controller = ~ $40
4 Launch Games (@$60/ea) = $240
Memory Card so you can take your saves with you = ~ $30
Remote = $30
Insurance on system (@EB) = $50
Total = $810 + tax (>$40) = $850 on the rim; out the door.
Yikes!
, 360 for me baybay with GTA and FF on 360, no PS3 for me...
