I havent watched any devdas movies before.. but saw Dev D today, and IMNSHO it sucked lol..

5/5?? No way, more like 2.5/5, just coz bolly has started using english expletives/shown drug usage etc and discusses sex etc openly, it doesn't warrant 5/5 :P

I think Taran Adarsh would be happy to know that you share his views :P

Om Shanti Om : Movie Review by Taran Adarsh - 4 star

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham : Movie Review by Taran Adarsh - 4.5 star

Dev D : Movie Review by Taran Adarsh - 1 star

heh I couldn't even muster up enough courage to watch kabhi kushi, om shanti or whatever crap bolly doles out on a regular basis, to the point that I didn't like Chak de and TZP either..

If you think this movie is 5/5 material then good on you mate, keep it up :)

I never said it was 5 star material. But yeah, certainly better than average crap we do watch. Last torture I had was Rab Ne...If movies like that get 3-4 stars, this movie is certainly Five Star stuff. Ofcourse shahrukh and Amir fans would disagree, but I don't mind if I don't get to watch another good hindi movie for this whole year. This movie pretty much covered it for me. its not only one thing which makes it good.

Overall style in which movie is made. Keeps it real, does not get into fantasy mode. Its fast paced throughout. The music is awesome. fits very well with moments in the movie. Abhay Deol, I've seen his 3rd movie. And he's way better actor than most guys around.

So you see, its Acting, Story/Screenplay, Camera, Music why I love this movie. I'm not giving a positive opinion just because everyone liked it. I rarely watch a hindi movie. Everyone may not like it though.

I'd give it a 3.5

a 5/5 for the concept and the creativity that had gone in (incl. the music)

a 4/5 for the characterization

a 3/5 for the way the script gels together (In other words, the movie isn't really gripping o(or pull you in) the way say Johnny Gaddar did

and a penalty for not letting the editor edit the movie and cut short the movie by 30 mins

also, I wish that the reel references to some of the more recent real life incidents/scandals was a bit more muted...didnt gel with the otherwise subtle feel of the flick

^ first average review!

all reviews i have heard have been extreme. either people liked it a lot, or some totally hated it.

nice movie.. must watch... didn't liked climax that much.. but still the movie is awesome :D.. Abhay Deol acted very well.

I gave 2.5 on 5... that's average I guess :P

Overall a watchable movie. First half of the movie is quite good, but second half gets sloggy.

Thumbs up......................with vodka. :P

Watched it on friday night. Its a very different experience from Rab Ne... and i'll give it 4/5. I particularly liked the way each character was developed. Overall its a pretty much watchable flick.

The movie was amazing ....

Wish more movies like this get made.... I liked the overall feel of the movie...

BTW did any of you guys see the trailer of the next KAshyap movie "Gulaal"....

The trailer was played during Dev D ... The trailer opens with Kay KaY Menon shouting " Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of Bh0s@d33ka" !!!!

This Movie VERY WELL deserves 5*****, but I would give it 4.5. Why? Cause I felt that it could have been little more tightly edited (specially in second half) and saved at 20 mins of viewing time. Why again? Cause, Mr. Kashyap, clearly you didn't make this movie for regular boneheads who religiously watch YRF/KJ/SRK movies... so I don't see there was any need for slowing down a pace, even for a little while for viewer to breath in and understand the movie. The people who would really love this movie and understand it, doesn't require such slow-downed parts in first place. For that, and that alone reason I am giving this movie 4.5.

Having that got that out of the way.... There have been many times, when I went to a movie with high expectations, and either got my expectations shattered cause the movie sucked or didn't reach my expectations levels cause I was expecting a way bit too much due to hype. NOT THIS, I went with high expectations and I came out of the hall, smiling like a mad with my expectations more than fulfilled. Thank you Mr. Kashyap, for giving a cinema that does not make compromises with bollywood standards of commercial cinema, for not toning down just to please certain biggies in bollywood (yeh, I'm talking about clear jabs at SRK and Bhansali's Devdas), for cinema that is honest in it's intentions, for taking the indie-style cinema to mainstream level without losing it's virginity.

Those who didn't like it.... BFD, nobody asked you! :bleh:

I totally forgot to add... Abhay Deol!! Man you rock, you're the most underrated talented actor in bollywood. F**K the mainstream bullshit cinema, keep doing your good job.

@FaH33m: Hell man... thanks a lot for that... Dev-D X-rated stuff is total brain-toaster, literal "Emosional Attyachar"!
