EA's DICE have released a new video in which they are presenting the graphical qualities of their new game engine - the Frostbite 3. The video is showing off some of the various new features which Battlefield 4 has which DICE are claiming to be vastly improved from the older Frostbite 2. The video is showing a lot of stuff from the upcoming game, and a developer's commentary is also running to help you understand what's going on.

Many games are being made by the developers on the new Frostbite 3, and some of them are upcoming titles such as DICE's own Battlefield 4, Star Wars: Battlefront and Mirror's Edge 2, Ghost Games' Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, Bioware's Dragon Age: Inquisition and an untitled Star Wars game which is being developed by Visceral games (most famous for the Dead Space). EA seemingly wants to keep this engine of theirs in-house, meaning only developers under EA will be able to use the DICE made engine.

You can check the video below, and needless to say, it looks very impressive.

Reactions: puns
Love everything about Frostbite 3 except one thing - they never release mod tools for it.

They're chickenshit that modders will develop content that is on par or BETTER than they ever could, release it for free and therefore seriously affect their "Paid DLC" sales.

Their excuse will be the usual "Frosbite 3 is too complicated for modders" rubbish.

Stupid numpties...

And they won't release the mod tools either, as you said, they want to sell as many DLCs as COD does and make more profit.

a DICE developer (he used to be a modder and map maker in the original battlefield community) answered this in the battlefield 3 subreddit. he basically said it's not just complication but there are several licenses involved in the tools (atleast 20 different ones) they use for making maps. adding that, it would be a huge project in itself to integrate them all in one single environment, documenting, supporting it (including servers for supporting custom maps) etc not even talking about public licensing of those tools. thus only possible by charging a good amount for such a package, so he said concentrating on such a thing was not possible. of course as a developer he cant say anything about DLCs and that is obvious.
