Graphic Cards Difference between 256MB and 128 MB version of Geforce6600?

256mb can have difference in newer games especially at greater settings

it also depend 6600 ddr 2 256mb is a lot better not as good as 6600gt ,maybe notteven near

There would be negligible difference between the 128Mb and 256 MB Geforce 6600 variants..

If you have the cash, like everybody suggested go for the 6600GT else stick with the XFX 6600 256 MB. Dont go for the BIG 6600. Also, check the 6600 you are getting is the new DDR2 variant and not the old DDR model.

The DDR2 6600's are much faster then the older DDR 6600's and are good overclockers too.. :)

First Shop:

1. XFX 6600LE(128MB) cost 6600/-

Second Shop:

1. XFX 6600GT (128 MB) cost 9500/-

2. Big/XFX 6600(256MB) cost 6500/- (Don't know if they are DDR2)

Take the XFX 6600 256 MB for 6.5k from the lot.

Like Blade mentioned, the LE has a 64bit memory interface. So avoid it at all costs..

Btw, Check on the box if its DDR2. Would be explicitly mentioned.

Well, I plan on using the Geforce 6600(256 MB) coupled with Athlon64 3000+, Asus A8N-E and 512 MB DDR400 (initially) to play the following games at 800x600x32 with all the eye candy turned on. As a compromise AA and AF can be turned off.
1. Warcraft 3
2. Age Of Mythology
3. Homeworld 2
4. Knights Of Honor
5. C&C: Generals
6. Simcity 4 Deluxe Edition
7. Lord Of The Rings: The Battle For Middle Earth
8. Rise Of Nations: Thrones And Patriots
9. The Sims 2
10. MVP Baseball 2005/2004
11. Cricket 2005
12. Fifa 2006
13. Empire Earth 2
14. Age of Empires 3
15. N4S: Underground 2
Barring Age of Empires 3 and to some extend Sims2, I shouldn't have any problem with any of the other games. The frame rate should not go below 30fps at any stage of the game. Correct me if I assume wrongly.

if you turn off aa and af, ure hardly gonna get any of the candy, more vram means ure gonna enjoy greater res. in future games. and avoid le versions theyre just crippled versions of the actual cards, just to reduce price.

You also have to take into consideration the size of the monitor, if you have a very big monitor then ull have to have higher resolutions for the games to look good, otherwise there will be a lot of jaggies.

I am using a LG 17" Flatron. Even if I turn off AA & AF, I can still get most of the eye candy bt switching on lighting and shadow effects, particles effects etc.

More VRAM on a low end card like 6600 means nothing. Enabling AA on a 6600 is gonna lead to terrible framerates. You are right about jaggies... 800x600 is gonna have a terrible amount of it.

I already asked to avoid a le, so on a standard 6600 more vram will make a diff.

Even on a 6600GT it won't make a difference, forget the 6600 vanilla :P. In fact the 256MB might potentially be slower as the manufacturers use 256MB of ultra slow memory(250MHz) compared to 128MB of faster memory(325MHz)
