I want to know what is the difference between 720p and 1080p video files. And does video bit rate makes any difference to the files.

1. These links might help:

2. Yes, higher the bit rate, larger the file size. Although, results vary according to the output format chosen.

the links you provided are for television, but my question was for the video files. Also I know higher the bit rate, larger will be the size. But suppose 720p file has 11 Mbps bit rate while 1080p file has 5 Mbps bit rate, then which will be better, irrespective of its size....

Well, these video formats are after all meant for playback on 720p/1080p capable devices, which primarily refers to televisions and monitors. :)

For instance, if you are looking to play these movies/videos on a FullHD (1080p) display, it makes sense to get the 1080p format.

But suppose 720p file has 11 Mbps bit rate while 1080p file has 5 Mbps bit rate, then which will be better, irrespective of its size....

Lower the resolution, lesser the bit rate required. Simple as that.
