according to a friend of SunnyBoi who owns a Soldam, Lian-Li & Silverstone the build quality of Soldam & Lian-Li is not the same as the past anymore & Silverstone is still built like a Tank

few other choices:
Newegg.com - SILVERSTONE TJ07-BW Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
Newegg.com - Antec P193 Gunmetal Gray Aluminum / Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases
Newegg.com - Antec P183 Black Aluminum / Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Never seen a soldam in person. But very true about the Lian. I had a exactly similar initial expression. But it turns out the aluminium used is very high quality. Elastic and cheap are two different things. What I thought was cheap is actually Elastic and would instantly regain shape even if you bent it. I learnt it the hard way.

The higher end lians are hand crafted and choosing a butter soft aluminium alloy chose itself over any rigid and so called "Built like tank" sheets.

Moreover the fit and finish leaves little to desire. The overall finish of the hair this brushed metal with brushlines visible straight from top to bottom are a sight to behold. Pity those who think it looks like a 2000Re server case.

PS: @Vandal: Sata cable length is a no issue. Lian gives all the cables to match the case color you've chosen with adequate length. Also some spares are provided. Take a good look at the bundle snaps in the show off thread. The dust filters are decent , washable and dry in a jiffy.

Dude the cheapest Lian Li decent gaming case costs 350$ and PC 80 series costs 500$ and above:S not to mention shipping charges to india-we can get two stackers for the price or one custom painted stacker 832.

Did I hear brushed metal? wht abt atcs 840? stands almost @ two feet high...for space and build quality is superb according to reviews.

I havent seen Lian Li cases(apart frm pics) so I might be wrong abt them.
But I doubt I am.:bleh:

came across this bunch of pics of the atcs

ATCS 840

Thanks bottle.

^Sarang, I was referring to the A70 when I said server-like. Personally if I had to choose between the X1000 and the X2000 I'd go with the former - its an improved design. Don't take any comment as a slur pal, wasn't meant to be
I'd buy a 47K cabinet if it were worth it, IMO the X2000 isn't. There's a phrase "more money than brains", I reckon I ain't the type...

A word on soft aluminium - a thicker sheet is always better. The softer the metal, the more malleable sure, but it loses shape easily and that is not good. Imagine having to straighten out dents - not fun

I like:

Antec P193

Antec 1200

Thermaltake Spedo

Thermaltake Mozart

Thermaltake Level 10 (Coming Soon)

Silverstone TJ10

CM HAF 932

CM Stacker 810

best for looks, size, layout & cooling in my opinion

outta:

CM HAF 932

CM ATCS 840

CM Stacker 830

CM Stacker 810

Silverstone TJ10

Silverstone TJ07

Antec P193

Antec 1200

Thermaltake Spedo

Thermaltake Mozart

Thermaltake Level 10 (Coming Soon)

NZXT Khaos

All Lian-Li's (weird layouts & plain looking)

If I were to change now I would buy Antec P193, Antec 1200, Thermaltake Spedo, Thermaltake Mozart or Silverstone TJ10

Upgrade later = Thermaltake Level 10 clearly

I hope this helps

P.S. #1: I had given my CM Stacker 830 Evo to my nephew & got a CM HAF 932 in November 2008 (best decision I ever made)

P.S. #2: you will hate Antec 1200, Thermaltake Spedo, CM HAF 932, CM Stacker 810 & CM Stacker 830 (except Nvidia Edition) as dust will be visible to everyone at the slightest accumulation

I like the Spedo Udit. Do the intake fans have filters? It's not aluminium is it?

Also why was the HAF932 better than the RC830?

@Gowt1ham: I am advicing him that case re, i know a ~50K case is near stupidity unless you know for sure what are youlooking for AND you've got some real excess moolah lying around. I was referring to the post which said it looks serverish or something.

@Vanda: No offence taken dude, I was referring to the server like comment. Yup X1000 is a much better design for sure. And I am sure you aint the "more money than brains category" hence the respect for you. :)

Thanks for the soft aluminium part.

As a context: We had called the Lian Li office as we needed a spare door for modding. There we had a discussion with one of the guys who seemed to know the process. It was him who told that since these are handcrafted the choice of aluminium was softer.

Your point on dents is perfect at its place, it definitely is a scary thought to have your precious case dented.
(Now where is the BH02-B-B-SL i was looking for :P)

Whats the fuss about filter? If you like a case design take it filters are soooo immaterial and can be purchased separately. Don't let the filters be the dealbreakers for a case.

Spedo "looks" like a nice case but with all that plastic (even on the interior) I am kind of skeptical.

HAF has nice airflow but what about dust? And IMHO it looks fugly particularly if you've owned a Stacker before.

Spedo is Steel+Plastic & no filters

HAF 932 had better cooling, lot more installation space & easier to install stuff in

wow Corsair Obsidian 800D looks cool :O

@Udit: It was shown at CES 2009. Sure is a amazing case. I guess someone (windwithme?) even posted something about the case back then.

@Vandal: do consider this. Looks killer prima facea.

^Sarang, when working with aluminium using hand tools, only the softer type is used, it's only machine tools that can work with the harder stuff especially for cutting, finishing, bending etc. Therefore it's not necessarily a plus, but a necessity of using softer Al when working by hand.

Yup may be thats why Lian's are sticking to softer AL.

Back to topic, Osbidian is 280 USD on NE. May be cheaper elsewhere dd not check. Carries free shipping. That means about 400 USD + about 2-4K due to weight.

That will make it cross 20K so give it a thought since its still a mid-tower.

Mid Tower? i think not

Osbidian - another high end case which totally ignores hard disk cooling :(

only Antec thinks about hard disk cooling but ignores space & cable management

Its really a (dusty)nightmare for HAF 932, Antec 900/1200 cabby owners ie if u dont like opening cabinets and cleaning often. all these 3 awesome in air cooling but antec(older) cabinets had no holes for cable management.:(
For air cooling antec 1200 is the best out there.....I can vouch for tht as my 720BE never crosses 33C under load with passive heatsink-hyper TX(I never intended to run passively but by mistake i had disconnected the CPU fan and was running it for days without knowing. WIth CPU fan temp is max 27C.)

SNIPER and HAF have dust filters but i dunno if they are easily removable bcoz in sniper its not possible to remove.

If u are going for water cooling COSMOS is the best else plz stay away frm it.
