tats my final budget :(

-will i get any nikon/canon camera within that range?

canon 310 available locally(rs.8500/-)..is it good?:huh:

any other alternatives?

-will video mode( as in canon a series) will be also be available?

- also i think kodak cameras are available in tat range. but do they provide good quality?

-wat about fuji cameras..i have seen their film camera pics..good quality ones.. is their digicams good and within my budget.
 
as far as i know canon supershot ! 25,000 /- and powershot ! 15,000 ,u'll get good son's in that range i guess.not sure bout others. or get a pocket (plastic flashless )cam for 200/- :P

For ur budget you can get 3megapixel cams(mostly kodak eazyshare )..but no optical zoom.

most of cams in that range will have only digital zoom.

if its available then go for the A310....good enuf for its price..it is something like 3.3mp , 4x or 5x digital zoom(not sure)...video mode available...this is a good choice for ur budget
 
as per our discussions
canon powershot a 310 is discontinued stay away.

you have 4 choices as per my opinion
canon powershot a 400
canon powershot a 510
kodak easyshare cx 7330
nikon coolpix 3200

each one of them have one feature less or more than others u can select any one of these according to availability and pricing.

I did a lot of research before buying my cam and this is what i have to share

Best 3 MP Cam

Poweshot A510 price around 9.5K
4x Digital zoom
Works on normal 2 AA batteries

Nikon Coolpix 3700 price around 8.5K
3x Digital Zoom

Buy any of these two with your eyes closed... Will not regret it.... canon IMPO is better as it is a newer model just released in Feb and is pretty hot... Nikon on the other hand is a little older but is also quite compact and looks great... Decide among these two and you will thank me later...

hey, here are the price list i got from local dealers :(

canon 310 -8.5k
canon a400 - 11k
canon 510 -15.5k!
nikon 4100 - 13k
kodak 7220 - 6k
olympus 370 - 10k!

310 is rare one as per medpal..still asking.. :) but it doesnt contain optical zoom! :(
410 is good..but 11k :(

I perfer my FUJI, but they are both good:)

@bluediamond :

the limitations of kodak eazyshare cx 7220:
its only 2 mp cam which is too low now a days even for home use.
the viewfinder of that cam is exactly on top of the lent which may hamper you while taking shots through the viewfinder which i do very frequently.

the prices you mentioned for the a 510 is bloated one. as the camera is hot model the dealer is asking for the premium.
canon a 400 at 11k would be a good buy and if you can bargain it would be better.

The Doc has prescribed some good cameras there :D
I too second his recommendations. Could consider the Nikon Coolpix 4100/4600 as well since its about 11K for a 4 megapixel and quite a decent cam.

One point to note, the A400 has a smaller 2.2X optical zoom and is basically quite a lot like a point and shoot. The A510 has a slightly bigger 3x optical zoom and adds "manual features" , basically stuff like aperture/shutter priority that you could experiment a lot with in your photos should you become interested in photography :)

I think the chaps at jjmehta should not hesitate in shipping the piece to you, I remember asking them almost a year back if they shipped to Chennai and they said yes. So you could ask them about it as well :)

Yes they do. at a nominal cost of shipping, u cud order directly from them. ALl u have to do is convince ur parents to make a DD for the necessary amount n mail it to them. :)
