Guys i need a digicam for my dad(gonna gift him)...Well it should be user friendly and slim and have good looks along with performance and good image quality...He dint like Canon A590...so any other option...I was planning for
Sony cybershot DSC W130
Nikon Coolpix P60
Nikon Coolpix S210
Kodak M913(9mpx but AA)

Preferably i need Lithium ion batteries!Which one to get...if ne other good option is available then plz lemme knw...the main priority is tht it should be slim...

Need to get one asap...so quick replies expected

If main priority is slimness / looks - get the sony W130

but in terms of performance , nothing even comes close to the Panasonic Lumix LZ8

Yup I second that, nothing beats LZ8 in that price range, but it uses AA batteries. I am using the LZ8 and I am very satisfied with its performance. :)

Any other options guys other than d 4 i mentioned...I'm ready to buy from ebay if dealer is frm mumbai since warranty usually r dealer warranty!

If u purchase Panasonic LZ8 from Ebay then u will get the official 3 year warranty from Panasonic India and not the crappy dealer warranty.

Here is a link from Ebay. Although this seller is not from Mumbai but is a very very good seller. A lot of members here including me have had very gud experience with this seller.

the Lz8 is very well priced, but really the shot to shot time when using flash is more than 3 seconds. and that is sumthing i really didnt like.

and yes, no canon colors. to my eyes the pics are slightly washed out kinda and noise is slightly higher than my canon a630.

i really would recomend either check out the canon 590is or the sony w series.

The flash recycle time is directly dependent upon the batteries you use. If you use crappy batteries, you'll get crappy recycle times.

I found nothing wrong with the colors. Maybe you are overexposing it by mistake. Neither did I see any noise problems if the ISO is kept at or below 400.

The 590IS is a junk camera - 38mm lens, old image processing system and there's really nothing to write home about. Plus it costs more than the LZ8. I have nothing against canon - I have Canon DSLR equipment costing over a lac but I absolutely loathe their current range of point and shoots other than the G10.

Any other option??Want to explore all options b4 i buy...may stretch budget till 10 but not beyond that...

How are nikon s210 n s550??

well, i was using sanyo enleeops. got it from ebay, seems original. same battery gives me excellent resutls with my powershot A630(but then it uses 4 cells).

i really am not that deep into photography, so while you are right about the specs, i wasn't happy with the LZ8 sumhw :(. was using iAuto mode btw

for many users like me, what will matter is how gud the pictures look. to me the canon looked better.

Have u tried increasing saturation? its available in P, A/S/M mode for sure, I havent checked if that option is there in iA mode or not. Try increasing saturation and see if u like the colors then.

I chose LZ8 bcoz it offered me some decent manual control and I never wanted to be just stuck to the iA or Scene modes so LZ8 fits the bill perfectly for me :)

!!! I thought a590 was a successor to a570is, which is quite a good camera. Comparing the pics to other somy/olumpus in same range, a570 results were almost always better, with Digic III procedure. Can you clear why you think so?

I am not doubting your statement, bur rather would like to know, so that I'd be careful while suggesting camera to ppl who ask for guidance.

me for most times dont want anything but auto. having manual options is kinda like a insurance for me in case i fall in love with photography. most times wud prefer simple point and shoot. auto should be grt.

@rohan30186.

depends on the need.

I would have chose w130 as i really dont care much for manual controls. but then most here would have chose the LZ8 for the manual control plus wide angle zoom it give in a delightful package.

Just up your budget by 1 k and get a much superior Sony Cybershot DSC-W150- I have both 130 and 150, but find the 150 with its 5X 30-150mm zoom better as also the bigger 2.7inch screen with 230,000 pixels. Best is Intelligent Scene Recognition in 150. I think The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W150 is a competent little camera that offers a pleasing combination of zoom power, image stabilization, performance, and point-and-shoot features.

All the features u mentioned are there on LZ8 already which is priced at half the price of Sony W-150, so at the end of day its personal choice. Sony only has the advantage of sleek looks over the LZ8.
