Hi all,
Don't know which child-forum would've been better hence posting here. Digit gave its 5th annual issue with DVD-DL that's 9.6 GB of data right there. Although the issue is marked at Rs. 200/- me thinks its worth it. I've just completed about 1/3rd of the issue till now. The DVD for is a disappointment as no DVD-reader/writer till now. Waiting for prices to fall below 2k (Another 6 months maybe? :) ) If somebody has their hands-on experience with the DL DVD it would be something to post. Some snapshots perhaps from Nero 7 with the Info Tool.
Thnx in advance

they gave some 10 ancient movies but they are nothing but a show of Little Lulu(the one which came in 1946), Popeye the sailor meets Ali baba's forty Thieves(1937); Sherlock Holmes and the secret wapon(1943), then 3 superman cartoons that came in 1940s, Dressed to kill(1946), The last man on earth(1964), The Kid, The man who knew too much(1934).

^^WTF:S:boxed: :annoyed: , they could hve given 1 good movie or some collection of game videos. These movies they gave is too lame.

heh, actiually all are decent movies from the past. but its been long long time since i read the Digit. maybe i will pick up the copy. BTW never ever buy magazine for the DVD content :P

^^Only if i had known TE 10days before i would hve never subscribed to Digit and Chip:(.

Wish funky had found me 10days before in Digit forums:P

HEY dont run them down .....THOSE were GOOD years ..... I was born in one of those years :)

^^

hmm i got the dvd! ya hmm most of stuff is crap. dont need it.. but atleast i own a dl dvd..

actually all the good software is in the cd... the dvd is crap!!!

My idea was not the content but the DL DVD. I don't have a DVD-writer hence looking to other people to give some kinda feedback about the manufacturer, the performance of the disk & stuff. Also it means that DVD-DL is on the verge of becoming a mass media item.

^^ AFAIK, the DL-DVD is nothing but a regular 2-sided DVD.

I doubt there will be any performance diffrence from a regular DVD or so...

Wrong Anish, Dual-layered CD are as the name suggest 2 layers on the same side as can be seen from the pics. over here & here . Some rumors as well as people have cited a small delay something like 2 secs. between changing layers. Although the pics. are deceptively simple it would be interesting to know how a DL-DVD is written. Logic says the inner or down portion would be written first & then the outer so no damage can happen. I haven't looked into it but could be very fascinating. Also what they've given is a DL with data & movies. As a backup solution I'm sure it wins hands down but what if it's movies. Does that layer change impact so much or not. In DVD-ROM drives it might not but what bout stand-alone players. There's an e.g. of the movie 'Black Hawk Down' where there's a gap between when the soldier's arm is severed & the other guy picks it up. This led many people to believe that their player was defective.

So long story short, we live in very interesting times :)

Got the Mag from newsstands and yes the dvd is absolutely worthless. Wish I had seen this thread earlier.

The movies are very old reminds me of my school days when i used to watch superman.

But there could have bundled loads of tech trailers on some product review or
loads of latest game trailers in HD or atleast some movies from 1995 to 2003.

They had given away iceage and terminator 2 earlier then why such old
movies this time.

^^ I agree 100% with ya quad. They could hve given some tech trailer, video workshop etc....

I think u guys do not know that the old movies that they were able to provide were most probably under public domain. In the States there's a copyright/patent saying that movies are copyrighted to the filmmaker/producer/director till they're alive & then if somebody doesn't claim copyright then it becomes public domain. The last time they had done that with ICE AGE was because either they were able to negotiate with the Disney people or the Disney people had come to India around that time (officially). So it could 've been either of the things.
