Directx 10 Vs Directx 9

hey guys i dont know about technical difference between them but i had a question. What happen when i install directx 10 with vista, i know winxp wont hav directx 10, so can i plan D10 games on my D9 Graphic Card, or can i play D10 games on WinXp. Is D10 backward compatible with D9 cards.
 
Yes, you'll be able to play DX10 games on a DX9 card but with some advanced graphical features and eye-candies turned off. No, you won't be able to play a DX10 only game in WinXP because as you know yourself XP won't support DX10. DX10 games will be supported in Vista only. DX10 is not backward compatible. However, DX9 games will be supported in Vista through an advanced version of DX9 for Vista called DX9L.
