'Dirty Dancing' star Patrick Swayze dies at 57

LOS ANGELES – Patrick Swayze, the hunky actor who danced his way into viewers' hearts with "Dirty Dancing" and then broke them with "Ghost," died Monday after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 57.

"Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months," said a statement released Monday evening by his publicist, Annett Wolf. No other details were given.

OHHH... sad news indeed. Although, Dirty Dancing and Ghost made him heartthrob for millions, I'll always remember him for his character of Bodhi from Point Blank.

May his soul rest in peace.

Yeah, I'd seen a photo of him about six months back and he looked like a skeleton even then. Truly a bad way to go.

He was a real optimist wen he said 2 years wen docs wdnt give him more than a few weeks.

Maybe he was a real fighter too deep inside.

When the Hollywood actor talked of flying to Australia on the following day (for the premiere of The City Of Joy), Om told him he wasn’t invited.

‘‘Patrick was shocked. He called the producer Jack Eberts and told him that he wouldn’t fly to Australia unless I accompanied him.’’ When the producer pointed out that it was a Saturday and I didn’t have an Australian visa, Patrick actually got the visa office opened on a Sunday and ensured that I travelled to Australia with him.’’ In Australia at the charity premiere, a slightly tipsy Patrick apparently told the waiting media, ‘‘Om Puri is terrific in ‘City of Joy’. If he doesn’t win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this film, I will personally kill someone.
