Disk boot failure, insert system disk and press enter

Hi guys,

I have been facing the following issues for a months time.
I have installled Windows vista in my C drive

1) System starting takes a looong time.
2) Identified 332kb in bad sectors while i scanned my C drive using "chkdsk":(

All of a sudden yesterday while the system was on, it restarted and i get the msg as

" DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER ":(

In BIOS after plugging the sata cables firmly i have my HD detected.
When i start the system it goes to the screen immediately bfor the
" login password " and the windows screen appears like loading for a
while and then the system restarts.

While i try the safe mode options.
Files are loaded ( around 20 files ) and then when it tries to load
"crcdisk.sys" the system restarts.

What exactly is happening to my system ?

I feel the reason for this problem is :

1) C drive has lots of bad sectors now and so the system files are corrupted
or
2) Harddisk is in its last days of life :(
Possible solutions that i feel wud workout is :

1) Delete the C drive partition and totally neglect it so as to increase the
life span of the hard disk by using the other drives by instaling the new OS :hap2:in D drive
or
2) Its better to try n replace the hard disk with warranty.
Thanks in advance

I dont think its a power supply issue. If its getting detected in BIOS, its good. Looks more like an OS or a bad sector infested drive.

See if you can reinstall the OS with a bootable disk and run CHKDSK.

If the hard disk is under warranty, then dont even ask, just RMA is ASAP, dont waste time working around bad sectors

So thats a hard drive issue and not a power supply issue.

After changing the power cable for HDD, its working fine now. Still I am using the same hard disk and never encountered restart / boot issues.

Is this one of those Seagate 7200.11 HDDs?..

Ya... my HD is 7200.11 with firmware 3d15.

So will have to give it to seagate center....

How many days will it take to return the HD ?
Will i have the bad sectors after the firmware is upgraded ?

Thanks

Mate,
Even i am facing a similar problem, I have a segate 160 GB sata HDD
(7200.11) and one partition is simply unusable due to badsector, when ever i try to write anything on this partition the system just hangs and when after restatring the System i get similar msg as OP,

mate can you confirm wether segate will consider the same for RMA.

Seagate rma will take 7 days max if you follow up with them properly. And if you are lucky you might even get a 7200.12 disk. Ask Accel Frontline about it.
You wont have bad sectors after firmware update. But its a risky thing to do. Not sure coz, I havent done it yet. Better RMA it asap. After RMA just run Seatools in the new disk to see if everything is ok..
@tosh79, they will do RMA if there are bad sectors in the HDD.
All the best..:)

Following are mt HD specifications :

st3500320as

firmware : 3d15

7200.11

But the girl who attended my call from seagate customer care said that my harddisk does not fall under the faulty category..

Why is it so ?

Please help

Seagate has firmware updates for these drives. Urs in in that list. Then its faulty i guess..Seagate Knowledge Base

Even if it doesnt fall under the faulty drives list, they have to provide RMA for drives with bad sectors. Delaying to do any measures will only increase it day-by-day and finally it will fail..Though, there are options to stop it which the experts here might be able to tell you..
But if I were you, I'd talk to them, explain them my HDD has bad sectors, will tell them its faulty and ask for a RMA.

Return merchandise authorisation - you return the defective product to the manufacturer for a refund or a replacement.
I wonder whether TE is the only place you visit on the internet..
