Friends need some Information about Distributed Operating systems in today's world so please help me out to make a list of them.

Plus can any one give me a simple explanation what is actually distributed OS is ????

I did the googled this stuff but found all definations to be technical rather then telling me difference compared to NOS and other OS.

Really confused after an lecture of Modern operating system and reading Wikipedia :annoyed:

Meaning of distributed systems-
Distributed operatting systems is baasically a collection of loosely coupled processors that are inteconnected by a communication network.A processors can be anything like nodes, computers, host.
Why we use distributed systems?
1) For sharing and printing files at remote side.
2) Processing information in a distributed database.
3) Using hardware devices.
Types of distributed operating system-
1) network operating system
2) distributed operating system

Distributed systems can be classified into two categories named as Tightly coupled and Loosely coupled. Distributed operating system differ from a network of machines that support each network operating system in only one way.

In today's world, no one uses a distributed OS. It was never practical enough to have ever emerged from research labs at universities into the commercial market. You'll not find a list of such OS outside research environments.

The majority of the world is either on a Monolithic Kernel on a Single System (WinNT, Linux, Unix) or on a Microkernel on a single system (MachOS aka OSX, QNX, Most embedded OS).
