DivX / Xvid Specifications pls for conversion..

Guys..

i am trying to convert a movie of mine ( My own original copy )
into Xvid/DivX format.

i got Master Video Converter ver 2.8

i tried it once but didnt got too good a result.
so i tried looking for specs for a good movie, but it didnt worked out that well again.

Has anybody been trying his/her hand at this ..? (i bet many wd have) , pls do tell me wot are the various specs i need to specify and the values for em also.

Shd be mentioning it here ki the original movie itself aint very good qualitywise..

From which format are you trying to convert to DivX ?

by the way , the movie is an original na yaar .. so its got to be in the good old .DAT format ..

Its not recommended to convert a low quality vcd into divx.

use virtuadub. Have the xvid codecs installed, and select it under video compression (after setting to full processing mode). Use 2 pass encoding. here you can set the final size of the o/p vid. 700mb per 1.5 hours should be decent enough, but remember to leave some space for the audio stream. advise ou to convert that to mp3 first, get the filesize of the audio file, then 700-x, etc.
