Dlink router + Internet + Local Lan. cannot see machines on local network.

hi,
i have an existing gigabit network and each system on my workgroup is manually assigned an ip address. everything works perfectly.

I have a tata broadband connection and someone recommended using a router to split the connections to other pc's, rather than using a proxy server

I have the router and set it up. I can surf on 2 machines that are directly connected to the router and they get their ip's assigned by the router.

The problem is that these 2 machines now cannot see anyone or eachother on the network.

Router : 192.168.0.1
comp1 LAN1: ip assigned by router directly for internet : no clashes with other ip addys
comp1 LAN2: ip assigned manually and set to 192.168.0.2

comp2 LAN1: ip assigned by router directly for internet : no clashes with other ip addys
comp2 LAN2: ip assigned manually and set to 192.168.0.3

Both machines can surf sucessfully but cannot see the local network or eachother. They can ping each other but not browse.

The other systems all have DHCP and DNS server services disabled and the computer browser service disabled too, except on the main server.

the ip addys used are 192.168.0.10======onwards
subnet for all is 255.255.255.0

how do i use this router and still be able to see my local network?

1) did you try addressing the direct IP address in the address bar...like "\\192.168.0.2" on the 0.3 machine?

2) Do make sure that at least 1 folder is shared on both the machine...Do so by right clicking on any folder>properties>Sharing and security and enable file sharing

the reason why I am asking you to do this is ths would ensure all the service dependencies for would be taken care of

well, my drives are already shared. i tried accessing them through the network browse thingie......not through IE.

just try entering the address as in post #2 either in IE or Windows explorer
