Storage Solutions Do I need to RMA my WD HDD?

Neo-N

Guide
I have a WD Caviar Blue with 5 Year Warranty.

Drive is about 6 months old. I have no issues with my PC but I ran chkdsk today and found this:

Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.

156240125 KB total disk space.

38059108 KB in 79759 files.

50520 KB in 15798 indexes.

4 KB in bad sectors.

202733 KB in use by the system.

65536 KB occupied by the log file.

117927760 KB available on disk.

4096 bytes in each allocation unit.

39060031 total allocation units on disk.

29481940 allocation units available on disk.

Do I have to RMA my Drive?? :O

How long will it take for RMA in Mumbai and whom should I contact?

I have never had issues with my HDDs ever and am really inexperienced with HDD RMA... :ashamed:

Thanx in Advance.

try HD Tune also.... if HD Tune shows bad sectors then try Data Lifeguard Diagnostics(recommended by WD) once and if DLD also shows bad sectors then give it for RMA else your HDD is good.... and as far as RMA is concerned you have to register here WD Support / Warranty Services / End User / Product Replacement for End Users and follow 3 simple steps.....
Thanx...

That's the problem. HD Tune shows no problems with the drive. :(

And I used the DLD by WD and performed a Quick Test and got this result:

Test Option: QUICK TEST

Model Number: WDC WD3200AAJS-00YZCA0

Unit Serial Number: WD-WCAYU1005164

Firmware Number: 01.03B01

Capacity: 320.07 GB

SMART Status: PASS

Test Result: PASS

Test Time: 23:10:31, January 29, 2011

The SMART Disk Information on the DLD Tool Shows this:

Whatever does the Warranty Column mean??

I'll perform an Extended Test tonight and update here.

P.S.: Cant rep u as I need to spread some reputation b4 repping u again... :( Thanx anyway!

your HDD passed SMART test that means your HDD is healthy and have no problems whatsoever and WD will also not replace your HDD because it passed SMART test.....

^ ignore it and do check your HDD every month for bad sectors.....
Sure... Will do that... Thanx again.

I don't think it is much of an issue as only chkdsk found the bad sectors. No other tool can spot it.

Maybe chkdsk is giving out false alarms... :P

UPDATE:

Today, I created a Bootable Flash Drive using HDD Regenerator v2011 and scanned my HDD at Boot.

00 Bad Sectors were Found/Reported

I guess chkdsk is just plain dumb... :|

Only those parameters against which Warranty is 1 are actually relevant for warranty. A S.M.A.R.T failure in one of those makes your drive due for RMA. Other parameters show operational info and is like the odometer on your bike.

What is the meaning of this Current Pending Sector Count? Got 4 sector on my WD 500GB HDD :( Is it dangerous?
Current Pending Sector Count S.M.A.R.T. parameter is a critical parameter and indicates the current count of unstable sectors (waiting for remapping). The raw value of this attribute indicates the total number of sectors waiting for remapping. Later, when some of these sectors are read successfully, the value is decreased. If errors still occur when reading some sector, the hard drive will try to restore the data, transfer it to the reserved disk area (spare area) and mark this sector as remapped.
