Do u Think India Is Progressing ?

I think our main problem is lack of proper supervision(i.e someone to keep track of our countries spendings and where it's all going). I mean, we're certainly trying as a nation to progress, but every time I read the paper, it's always another article about how money alloted for some relief, development, upliftment etc.etc. by the government never reaching it's destination.

I don't think so. There is no market for pirated cd's/dvd's in the USA, I can assure you this. Only the original stuff sells there. Whatever little piracy happens, it comes off only through the internet.

You're right about the other point though. There is no piracy in developed countires because the average guy's job gets him the dvd's at a soft price.

Dude, Piracy is very prevalent in developed countries as well, a lot lesser than developing ones but still real and huge. I know this personally because my dad works in the states and as far as possible he tries to shove pirated stuff down my throat.

Wow really?! My dad searched all over for pirate outlets only to end up back in wallmart for the dvd's.

Still imo, the difference is too huge to matter. India's pirate market is tremendous and is what keeping the companies from setting foot in here or giving a crap about lowering the bloated s/w prices.

Piracy, shiracy do not make a country developed or un-developed. What is needed in India is massive, massive investment in infrastructure that continues for at least 2 decades. The river linking project should be given the go ahead, 6000 crores is nothing compared to the benefits that will bring.

Focus on the agri and manufacturing secotrs. The services/IT sector is mature enough to go ahead on its own, plus IT/BPO won't really get you to the developed country list. Strengthen your base first. Substantial investments in infrastructure have already been initiated by the central govt. The fruits of which shall be seen in 3-5 years from now.

Sign the nuke deal, we need as much power as we can get. A trillion dollar GDP is nothing if the benefit does not filter down to the poor. The govt job schemes have been working but they need to be popularized in the rural sector.

Improve sanitation and public transport (comes under infrastructure but what the hell).

And the most important thing - Get good advisers you morons. Theres so much opportunity in the world. Spread to central asia, sell them a few crap guns and tanks and they'll welcome you with open arms. Assist the africans so that the chinese do not gather enough influence there. Help the pakhtuns in dividing Pakistan into a few more halves. The only way to succeed in a situation like ours is to fight back.

Band together with the japs. Create a bloc against the Chinese because sooner or later, a war will happen between us.

Spread the cities outwards, stop building 20 malls inside a fvking 50 sq km radius. Stop giving permits. Make the developers themselves expand the city boundaries. Give incentives to people who develope EEZ's in non metro cities.

Create an independent anti-corruption bureau headed by the Supreme court. Beat the corrupt bastards up and bar their future generations form contesting in elections.By the way, I'd rather have a dysfunctional democracy over a tinpot dictatorship or a commie govt any day.

Oh and for shits sake, get VSNL to fix their routing, my pings suck :D

You Think India Is Progressing ...?
defnitely!

You Think India Is Progressing Correctly ...?
This one is going to be contentious at best.

The answer i suspect lies somewhere between

[Strong Govt.]<<--???????????????????-->>[Strong Individual]

At this point we are still in the strong govt. phase, thats whats needed to get the required infrastructure in place.

Once thats there we can proceed towards the other end as is typical in "developed" countries.

Try to go too fast and you will trip ;)

Caveat Emptor....but in Asia the we is stronger/more important than the me.

I think we are a great nation with the potential to be the greatest. What is holding us back is our apathy. And our tendency to "adjust" where we need to raise our voices and be heard. We vote for bad politicians, we "adjust" till the next elections. We have a pothole in the road, we "adjust" by going around it. Our buses run unchecked, we "adjust" with a feeble, "Bhaiya zara araamse chalao". What we need to realise is that we are a democracy, which means the power is in our hands, the hands of the people. We would much rather blame our politicians while talking among friends than participate in a morcha against the government. We would much rather say corruption is rampant rather than report our next door neighbour who's blatantly stealing power or not paying taxes or whatever. That power is made using the taxes we pa from our hard earned money. Unless we look to ourselves to fight for our rights, no one else will.

Other than loooting other countries during the empire, my take on how the west stays developed is..

..ppl fight & work to keep it that way.

This to a certain extent makes them complainers par excellence or are they just too soft :)

But where does that come from ?

To be effective at crticising, requires proposing & following through with a better alternative. For some reason they seem to find it more often and faster. That tomorrow is usually better than yesterday.

Why again ?

There is usually a selfish incentive. Their system rewards initiative and heaps rewards on whoever took the risk to get it done (particularly the US). There is no such thing as failure but stepping stones to a better succcess.

They have a highly developed freedom of thought. We might be a free country, but does it extend to freedom of thought too ?

This i think is the #1 REASON we are where we are and...they...are where they are.

If the individual isn't going to get appreciated/rewarded then she will just get jaded as time goes through and even discourage change or has been the case, emigrate somewhere else. In fact such ppl are considered either eccentric or trouble-makers, why can't they just go with the flow like everyone else and have respect for the existing sytem. It starts from the primary school onwards.

Hmm...seems like we need a change of mindset here.

How to effect that change ?

Western nations are rich because the people there are huge spenders which benefits the economy and increases overall wealth which again in turn results in higher wages. It's a vicious cycle that just keeps going on and on. This off-course comes at the cost of natural resources.

thought of adding some info-

this year india has GDP of 9% in comparison of 2% of USA, in short with this same rate we will be ahead of US by 2020.

though china (already ahead of india) is growing at GDP of 11% and will be way ahead of US and also of India by 2020.

It's said 80% of the US lives on debt. With credit cards becoming widely available here you can expect a similar change too in the next cpl of decades.
