Thanks everyone for the comments.

I think corruption cant be stopped in a short span. First thing first, we need a more educated society and everyone should know their rights. We have the RTI act at our disposal, if we educated people dont use it, then please dont expect a chai-wala to use it. Trust me, even if 00.25% of indians use this act once every year, we can make a BIG difference. We can find out each and everything out of this about any govt. project. How much money alloted to whom and what has been done with it. I have already used it twice and believe me, its FUN. The officials all go dancing around when they see someone checking out their work. Though it didnt made any huge impact on them, but iam sure he will think twice before doing some bluff.
And even if u cant take out that much of time from one whole year for your society, then please dont abuse our ancestors, you are synonym to them.

Dont mind my hothead at the moment :ohyeah:

Forget it, guys... tht idiot can be simply summed up in 4 letters...ABCD!!

So lets all leave this stupid country to become another Africa and enjoy our lives in AMERICAAA

It dont matter where u go bro..home is always home...thrs no better place than home..and this country is our home...we can go abroad and try to carve an identity thr, but for them, u'll always be an outsider....so u can call it a makeshift home, but deep inside u know, home is whr ur heart is...u can only know the true value of ur home and family when u are away from it...;)

:P hehe...Well, I'm proud to be an Indian and i know, like all countries, our country has its fair share of problems too..but i think, thrs nothing tht cant be taken care of..all we need is to contribute in the progress..then we'll surely get thr, if not now, then surely in a few years time..:D
Though it seems like a publicity stunt but i really like the concept of 'Do' promoted by shahrukh..tht simple word means so much....think about it..running away seeking greener pastures is no solution...what u do right here right now, makes all the difference....:ohyeah:

Hmm.... this thread is too boring... no flame wars, nothing !! I'll do my bit to spice it up.

I agree on a lot of points with that ABCD.

Yes, I dont think I would like to be an Indian living abroad, but god I wish I was a white person born and living in the Western world.

I really do.

What do we have to show ??

a zillion years of history which dont help us in anyway. The world's second largest population, which we cant manage. The world's largest number of beggars.

A zooming sensex (which again benefits the 0.01% of people who actually involved themselves in it) .

You people keep giving the excuse that it has been only 60 yrs since our independance. Well, for that I cant say anything now, but I am willing to bet that even another 140 yrs from now, we wont be anywhere near the Western World. Of course none of us will be alive, but I hope TE is alive and I'll give this link to my grandkids and ask them to keep passing it on.... Then I can have the last laugh

Yes, it's cruel to be told the truth. But I dont think our country is going anywhere.

My reasons for this ----

1). Population

2). Illteracy.

We talk abt our govt leaders. And then some smartass comes along and tells us that we are the ones who elect our govt and we are to blame.

Well, Mr.Smartass, please count the number of intelligent people in our countru and then the number of idiots who vote blindly.

Secondly, for whom does the intelligent man vote ?? We arent allowed to elect the president (who has no powers anyway). We are jyst allowed to vote for a party and then cross our fingers and pray that a good person becomes Prime Minister ??

And what abt the lakhs of people below him ?? The IAS officers, the policemen, the army men(who dont deserve to be compared to the police... well, almost. anyone remember that battalion who stormed and looted a police station because one of their men was arrested for eve-teasing on New Year's Eve ? ).

If the PM is a good honest man (like Manmohan Singh), what abt the others ??

Are you proud to be an Indian so you can brag that we have reservations for SC/ST/ OBCs even 60 yrs after independance ?

All our politicians know to do is to divide the country further on basis of caste creed and language.

What the bloody Fark do I(an intelligent self proclaimed patriot) care if we have two consecutive Muslim Presidents ??

We have Gowdas, Iyers, Shettys, Naidus, Iyengars, and so on.... every sinlge political party just promotes this feeling of disunity.

I hate it !! I absolutely freaking hate it.

The people are no better. They want to be divided. All Muslims and Hindus can go jump off a cliff for all I care. I dont want them in my country. Let the Hindus go to Nepal (an official Hindu country) and let all the Muslims go to any of the dozen Muslim Countries.

I want only Indians here. I dont care if they are dalits (I dont like that word BTW), or anything.

I dont need 1 billion people to claim that my country has a huge pool of resources.

what resources are you talking abt ?? Out of the 1 billion, 100 million are educated. And even those who have a BE or Btech certificate are idiots. They dont know jack shit.

We proudly say Infy, TCS, Wipro, etc are Indian companies. Well, what the hell are the developing ?? Are they doing anything to improve the state of our country ??

The few places (IISC, DRDO, ISRO) that are doing something dont get funding by the brilliant govt. so, they are not able to retain talent. All the talent goes to Private companies.

A friend of mine who had a superb score in engg had got placed in IBM. But being like me (well not exactly. I rate money very high on my life-scale), he applied to BHEL also. He knew the salary would be lesser....but he was sick and tired of all the debate abt not doing anything for your country.

He got till the interview. That went off very well. Then no news at all from the company for 4 months. He tried contacting them but no one knew him. No one knew what had happened to his job because the guy who interviewed him had left (to go to a private company).

Finally, he had to choose. IBM had sent the offer letter and he joined.

Why would someone want to work in a company like that ??

And even if someone puts up with low pay and slogs their asses off in ISRO or something, what do they get as a reward ?? Underfunding ?? No recognition or credit when they achieve a breakthrough ?? OR govt lethargy in accepting their research and 8 yrs later rejecting it saying it's outdated ?

Bring on the flame wars I say.

I'll cut it short...:P Its very easy to criticize and then criticize more, but have u for once thought about how much the youth of the nation contribute to the progress..everyone believes tht the grass is always greener on the other side..if tht general view about ur own country remains, then this country will surely go down the drain in 140 years as mentioned by u.. Thts the problem with us, indians...especially urban indians...we are so fascinated by the US n uks of this world tht we are even ready to give up our nationality for being among the happening breed!! Why, do the ppl from other countries dont think like us? The fault is very much in our thinking...we do not believe in our own identity, let alone respect it..so why will the others respect it??

All this -ve talk about the country reminds me of the famous quote by JF Kennedy... "Dont ask what your country has done for you, ask what u have done for your country."...

@nikhil...

dude!!!! go get a life... get on a bike if u have one nd take a spin... go eat something.. go eat something.. go meet someone.. do anything!!! but plss... spare us the agony of these monster posts!! :P :P

jeez... god be wid the ones who'r gonna try nd read every post in this thread..

when we r paying so much more taxes we dont have any life left to do anything for the country :bleh:

besides i thinks the country is already in a drain so deep it wont come out of it in the next 50k yrs no matter how hard the fellow buggers try. so why try at all?

Here's my 0.00005 Rupees (2 cents for american ppl :P)

India ain't all bad, but it ain't all good either.

The biggest problem is not illitracy or poverty or even communalism, its our freaking self-delusionment....

We want a honest police force, but yet we proactively bribe the cops for any and every thing.

We decry the racism that shilpa shetty experienced, yet we happily go on calling ppl gora, kalu, chinki etc....

We pride ourselves on being the freindliest people on earth, and then we overcharge (to a ridiculous degree) forigners, and make snide remarks about them in hindi.... I am not saying this is exclusive to india but at least other countries do not make such pomopus claims.

We want a progressive government, but the minute they make any move that is progressive but hurts a little, people take to the streets.

I could go on and on about how we still throw garbage out of the windows, how we ride in 10lac cars but still spit on the road at signals but I digress.

Granted we have acheived many commendable things, but we have a long way to go, and the sooner we get rid of the delusion that we are already a superpower and everything is rosy the sooner we can make our country a better place to live in.

Even if someone want to do something for his country, he is vilified and thwarted at every turn, so why should he bother?

agreed, but there needs to be a movement, we need a french revolution type thing to get us out of the current spiral we are in.... but that will happen only when everybody collectively snaps.....
