Hey guys i m gettin the itouch (8gb) from U.S (thnks to my bro) ........

i know tht the back of itouch is really prone to scratches .......

but many people have been saying tht the screen is really good n it is really difficult to scratch it n u dnt need a screen protector for it wht do u guys thnk abt it ??????????

coz i dnt want to install any silly cheap screen protectors i thnk they do more harm than good

pple who own ipodtouch/iphone can u please give some suggestions.

thnks

If you intend to keep the touch in your jeans pocket, or in a pocket which you also use to keep your keys in...Then you do need a screen protector

The screen on the touch is made of optical grade glass, so if you plan to care for it as much as you would for your eyeglasses, then you don't..but since that would be impractical, you might as well get one

but i saw many videos on youtube where the guys do all sort of crazy thngs on their itouch/iphone n claim tht the screen is scratch free ..........

since the resolution of these videos is less u cant tell if the screen protector is on ........

but these guys claim tht there is no sort of protection applied ......

what do you people think ..... is the screen of the itouch/iphone really that Resilient to scratches ......

comments from people who already own the iphone/itouch will be more helpfull.........

iPod Touch/iPhone screens are very delicate and definitely not very resilient regardless of what Apple or someone else claims. I would definitely recommend a good screen guard and a carrying case. The screen would get ruined very quickly otherwise.

That's total B.S.
Spreading FUD about Apple and its products has just become a stupid habit of yours.
I am sorry but i just had to say this, as you've taken this sh1t far too much.

The screen on iPod Touch is not at all, by any means delicate or prone to scratches.
I have been using the iPod Touch for almost an year now without any protection on the screen and its still squeaky clean, no scratches whatsoever.

Obviously keeping the iPod and other sharp objects in same pocket is avoidable.

arre yaar, just get a 200/- screen protector na... Doesn't hurt..does it?

I have seen screens on the iphone getting scratched primarily becoz people (and I am sure you will also) end up putting the phone in the same pocket as their car house/key and a metal object constantly rubbing against glass isnt a great idea..

My Dad got a minor scratch on his phone's glass because of that...It's a minor one, visible only froma certain angle, but I guess 200/- to protect against that ain't too bad...

Though if you constantly plan to carry it in a pouch or something, then you don't need to...

@LorD Nemesis  you had it coming at ya, isn't it?

Hey, if you really want your player/mobile screen in good condition, just spend few rupees... atleast we will have some kind of satisfaction about the safety... If the screen guard gets scratches, you can change it,but if the screen gets them, you can not...

You can get some Universal sized screen protectors for about 30-40 rs(using which i can apply the screen gaurd two times for my D2).

question... the ipod touch screen is "capacitive" right? meaning it needs electrical interference from your skin to work... dont the screen guards block this or they dont interfere with smooth touch operations?

no interference that I have noticed

I guess those plastic films don't interfere with the capacitance between the screen and your fingers

Welcome to the club. :)

I've a screen guard installed on mine ever since I've got it. No issues what so ever. Sometimes end up doing this:

putting the phone in the same pocket as their car house/key and a metal object constantly rubbing against glass isnt a great idea..
:ashamed:

Mediacoder , or if you want a simple one with not many options then try KVIP (using this one currently and it works great)

The back certainly does need protection, make sure you get a good leather or silicon case for it

IMO a Silicon Case spoils its beauty, something like InvisibleSHIELD is much better.:)

One can buy something similar in Croma stores.

I use VisualHub, but its only for MacOS X, something like Prism is a good option for Windows.

MediaCoder is fine too, but it failed too often for me.

If you want to convert DVD's nothing works better than Handbrake. Its available for MacOS X, Windows and even Linux.

Yeah right, tell that the people who got their iPhone screens cracked in their carry pouches and later got to know that they have to cough up 8k+ to get it replaced. This happened to not 1 but 3 people I know, despite their taking good care with carry cases and all.

And just get over yourself, Just because you are lucky does not mean that others should follow your example and carry their touch screen devices sans any sort of protection. Its a glass plate for heaven sake, not a steel plate.

LCDs/Touch screen LCDs are delicate in any device. iPod Touch and iPhone are even more do due to the larger size.

No need to get any screen protector. I invested in a 200rs screen protector.. Once my iphone fell on the table, and the screen guard got a scratch (so i would always see it on the screen), i took the guard off and screen was fine. Since then i've never used the protector....My iphone has fallen a number of times, been in the pocket with keys - and NOTHING happens - the screen is very robust - the best screen on any phone/device.

I got a HCL Black Cover for my Ipod Touch. It is very good. It can protect screen and body both. It costed me around 500 or so... If you cant afford one then you dont have an option but go for a screen protector.

Huh...screens cracked in carry pouches! that's bizzare.

And its a FACT that iPhone/iPod Touch screen along with the upper glass is very robust, one of the best among the portable devices and many users vouch for it.

And Please read the posts carefully saar, we are NOT discussing of cracked screens due to manhandling.

The guy just wants to know if the screen easily develops scratches with NORMAL USAGE.

Now, do you want me to give you a count of how many guys i know who had no issues with their iPhone screens even due to improper handling?
