A Delhi court on Tuesday acquitted all those accused in the Jessica Lal murder case. The key accused, Manu Sharma, is the son of an ex-minister.

Now consider these cases:

Former navy chief Admiral S N Nanda's grandson Sanjiv Nanda was charged with mowing down six people -- including three cops. He was also allegedly drunk.

During trial, key witnesses turned hostile, and Nanda was acquitted.

Santosh Kumar Singh, son of an IPS officer J P Singh, was charged with raping and murdering a 22-year-old law student.

The judge, while acquitting Singh, even said he knew this is the man who committed the crime but was being given the benefit of the doubt. The judge also observed that the Delhi Police had assisted the accused.

And then the Puru Rajkumar case in Mumbai where the actor's son ran over and killed several slum dwellers and got away with a light fine.

Are these mere coincidences? Or is it that the rich are getting away with any crime they commit?

Tell us, dear reader, in India, does pulling the right strings and having deep pockets mean you can get away with anything?

I guess the answer to this will be quite unanimous. It is obvious that the rich and people having connections in high places always get away with stuff.....

It may actually seem so...some wealthy but low profile people actually get away with it quite easily..but the trouble seems to be with people who are rich but are famous...like the bollywood celebrities...they cud get away with their crimes but cant because of being in the limelight and the media's constant interference...take Salman, for example..many rich spoilt kids in bombay do a hit n run almost every other day..and they even get away with it..but salman is a favorite media masala..so even if he wud want to ..he cant get away with it...:P ...Good, atleast some of those rich are given a dose of bitter reality that no one is above the law of the land..but by n far, the rich in india do get away with their crimes..

Law is a cobweb in which small insects get caught but the larger ones break through. Its so disgusting, depressing, all I feel is that if the State cannot protect its honest citizens then it should do away with the weapon licensing regime and make it a no gun control society ... atleast one should be able to defend himself.

Actually it is about power. People who are rich, but who have little political influence get screwed just like everyone else. Ever heard of Rajan Pillai? Multi-millionaire, maybe even a billionaire (in US dollar terms), but he still died in jail under mysterious circumstances.

yeah.... he died in Tihar Jail and his bro released a book recently. He was wanted in S'pore for various fraud cases.

Owner of Britannia at his peak.

there is no such thing as rich poor. Lotsa so called poor people get away too only they don't make headlines. to get away you should need anyof the following

1) you can have money but you shouldn't be in the media spotlight too often (err there was a std chatdered.. or some back VP who rolled over a guard.. umm did we hear about that after 1st day)

2) you can be poor and have right connections with the local thane.. now every other day we have dowry deaths and we sometimes hear about case not bein registeres.. they aren't rich guys.. they are guys who have connections with the thanedar or blame it on our culture

3) or you can be a hitman of underworld.. kill and fly off and make a name in media too.

in the present case the only people who should be shown the firing squad or those 100 "socialites" who have got no other thing to do other than visit parties and neither have the courage to face and tell the truth.. they all are rich.. if the rich accused can exert pressure.. they can have security too.. later same thing will happen to them and then they will blame police.. police is as good as the citizens.

Well, the Rich, will always get away with crimes in India.

Money is everything. Not just here, but everywhere in the world.

Money = Power.
