hi people,
i am confused to which one to watch out for..
my confusion is over
1.canon S5 IS
2.Sony H10
3.panny FZ18

It will be of great help if someone could tell me their grey market prices and how long do the AA batteries last against the lithium ion batteries? The drawback i know abt Canon s5 is its AA batteries. But i dont have any other choice in that range and functions.
Any help and suggestions will be of great use.
Thank you

Hi, Out of the list, the Canon S5 IS is probably the best performing most reliable prosumers there is in the market.

Personally I think the Nikon P80 is up there with the S5. Also it has a Li rechargeable battery unlike the AA of S5

The S5 should be ~13K, grey market. Why are the AAs a drawback? Easier to recharge, widely available, what's not to like?

The FZ18 should be ~14.5k or so.

hi TechHead

Well, AA batteries means extra weight and i have used Olympus roll camera which has got a differnt battery( the one fat and short than the ordinary AA ) costs around Rs120. which i was forced to change after 2 or 3 rolls. which was quite frustrating added to the cost of roll development. what i want to know is how long will the AA rechargeable batteries last on average and how often do i have to replace them with new ones ?

AA batteries are much better bet as far as P&S cameras go, though flash recharging time is a pain with them. Panasonic claims that the lithium ion battery in FZ18 lasts for around 400shots; you will get similar or higher number with S5IS on ~2500mah rechargeable batteries.

A pair of AA 2700mah nimh rechargeable batteries would set you back by around Rs. 300 and they can be recharged for about 1000 times. Expect to pay at least 700-800bucks for an aftermarket rechargeable battery for FZ18 and at least 1500bucks for the original one.

FZ18 in grey market would be around 17-18k, while you can get the S5IS for 19-20k with bill.

^^Why not get the P80 from reguler market then ????

It costs about 21k with 4gb card and pair of batteries !
