Laptops Does DELL honor a dying battery under complete care ?

Hey Guys,

I bought a Dell Lappy sometime in June/July last year and it came with a Complete care for one year. I double checked on their website and it showed that my warranty is still valid till next 57 days from today. The OS(Win 7) recommends me "Consider replacing your battery" and it shows a red cross even when the battery is on charge(Pic attached).

Now I called up Dell and informed then about the battery problem. The technical support guy told me that Laptop Battery is a "consumable Part" and hence not covered under complete care warranty. Unconvinced I asked him How much is the new battery, what kind of warranty should one expect on the new battery and How about if I buy a new battery from a Dell exclusive showroom. He informed me that a new battery for my model is out of stock as of now with them while ignoring the part about the warranty as well as pricing from Dell directly. He also mentioned that if I chose to buy the battery from the showroom then warranty would be handled by showroom and not by Dell.

Hence the reason for this thread. Also if it is not covered then how much is a new battery. And does buying a third party battery makes sense or should one go in for a new battery only.

The battery has 1 year warranty from the Invoice date.
Complete care doesnt cover the battery BUT if your system is less than an year old then you would definitely get a battery replacement.
 
As far as I remember, batteries were covered for 1 year warranty irrespective of complete care warranty unless the 'policies' have changed in the recent past.

A Dell's standard battery warranty is one year. Batteries are a consumable item. All batteries degrade with time and use. The warranty is very similar to common auto warranties which exclude consumable items such as tires.

So I am entitled for a battery replacement if it is under one year from Invoice date. Good :D. Will try calling the dealer.

Also Chargers are covered under Complete Care. Have already gotten a replacement for the charger about six months back along with the keyboard.
 
I had the same issue & the CC guys told me Battery has only 6months. But after some Complaint Escalations they replaced the battery.

If the CC guys isn't giving you the battery, keep on escalating the call till it gets solved.
 
My Dell mini battery had died totally, i was within 1 year of purchase. Dell sent me a new battery and took the old one after customer support was convinced the dead battery is the issue.
 
Yes, you should insist on a replacement. I had the same message on my Dell Inspiron recently, & I did get a replacement. & I had the normal, regular warranty only, no complete cover. Also, my laptop wasn't purchased from Dell directly. Rather it was bought from Lamington rd. So I don't see why there should be a problem in your case.

However, do download the Quickset application from the Dell site, if you don't have it already. The Dell CC relies on that program to evaluate the battery health, & not Win7. I had to download it & then tell them what that program said (which is the same as what Win7 said) to convince them that the battery indeed was faulty. Once this was done, there wasn't any issue at all. They sent me a replacement in 2-3 days.

Sorry for thread hijacking, but does anyone know if Dell replaces a Monitor too?
I have 3 years warranty. At end of 2.9 years, will Dell replace my 2209WA, when there are no 2209WA anymore in circulation?
 
^^^ How come you know your monitor will die at the end of 2.9yrs?? :S And replying to OP query, Dell will replace battery within one year of invoice date.

They have to replace your monitor if it dies even within one day of (you opening a RMA request i think) final warranty date. They will just give you some other suitable monitor.

Wow... You had to change a charger, a keyboard and now a battery within one year of purchasing that notebook. what is the model no of that dell laptop?
 
Well finally Dell did acknowledge the issue and they are sending me the a new battery. Should arrive within a couple of days.

The model no of my laptop is Inspiron 1564. The keyboard had a faulty key Z from the very date of purchase. It did miss a few keystrokes every now and then. Also the charger cable gave away from where its permanently connected to the charger. Could have happened to any company's charger. As for the battery well its almost 11 months now and I use my lappy everyday so battery dying is normal.

What is important is the Dell service is GREAT. I don't really mind the dying parts as long as Dell is replacing them. Also guys Dell is offering me an extended service(Complete Care) for Rs 7K for one year and 12K for 2 years. I find it a little expensive. Any cheaper source to get complete care for next 2 years.

yeah..i asked just because dell is always considered as company providing laptops with best build quality and your dell laptop was showing all these quality issues within a year. Do they send technicians to your house to fix the pc or do you sent your laptop to them to fix it?

I am planning to get a dell lappy for my bro. How is the build quality of Dell laptops in general.

IMO build quality is much important compared to after sale services
 
If you notice closely apart from the faulty keyboard nothing else is wrong as such. Though I really like the feel of my old compaq lappy. I feel the touchpad in that thing is far more superior then what i have in my Dell. Would advise you to go and have a look and feel in person of the lappy before finalizing on anything.

In youtube i found out that there are a lot of dell laptops having problems with lid hinges .How are the hinges of the laptop. Does it become loose or tight after gradual usage

IMO We can't really analyze the build quality of a laptop within a hour inside the showroom. Thats why i am asking users like yourself who got sufficient experience with it already:)
 
Well mine has vostro type hinges. The new version was out when i had gone in the market to buy this one. Took me a while to search for this particular model as i really liked the hinges. I dont know people on you tube but mine works like a charm. Will try an attach a pic of the same and share it over the forums.
 
Well, I've had an Inspiron 1564 for close to a year now, & it hasn't given me any trouble yet (except for the battery dying out). So I'd say the build quality is pretty much satisfactory. (Hope I haven't spoken too soon).

However, what I would suggest is trying to look into reviews (by the common junta on forums & such, not professional reviewers) for the specific model you are going to buy. That'll probably be a better indicator. HTH. Good luck.
