Does Linux used in Shared Hosting Uses FAT?

Hello Friends,

I want to know that the Linux Operating System used in Shared Hosting Services or cPanel make use of FAT (File Allocation Table) of Hard Drive?

I am asking this because I came across some reasons in which a Shared Hosting Server was down due to FAT Corruption....

Just want to confirm :)

Response Awaited :)

- Wishes :cool2:

Hmm well that depends upon the ISP. Where I have mine hosting, there is no FAT and I dont believe FAT would be used by anybody with sane mind.

So this means if some shared hosting provider is giving reason, His webhosting sever was down due to FAT Corruption, it is fake?

Maybe he has his own acronym referring to something in particular? Ask him. In any case, if he is referring to the filesystem, then you should get your data out and leave this fellow. Either he is a special kind of lunatic who has managed to install Linux to a FAT partition or he is storing your data on a FAT partition or he is lying.

Can you tell us, what exactly happened? I might be able to help out;)

Nothing actually Happened.... I read reviews over some websites that a server was down due to FAT Corruption :ohyeah:

^^ All crap, linux uses reiserfs,ext2,ext3 or any other unix based filesystems. No person with sane mind will use fat or even ntfs with critical linux/unix systems. There;s no point in it, these filesystems do not support unix style permissions.

doesn't make sense at all. why are you so worried ?

If your site is earning then its about time to move to VPS.

check out fsckvps.com , me and gigacore use the same, its awesome, also check out vps offers at webhostingtalk.

fsckvps is not good; earlier it used to rock but after the hacking incident and management change. the company is in mess and service quality is degraded.

I would suggest to avoid it

That's totally false!! They recovered soon and they now offer me 4gb RAM for the price of 1GB RAM. for being loyal customer.

Also 2 free IP.

The hack of hyperVM was the only down time ever faced. After that it was all fine.

Its now back to normal and full service. With same cheap prices.

Only the owner has changed, The Management is still the same in fact, the company was taken over by a bigger and better host, which has much better network !
