Hi,

I just got a PS3 and it looks and works great. Too bad there are not real games yet which will pull me away from Halo3...

Using it basically as a blu ray player and dvd upscaler (which it does surprisingly well, better than my denon upscaling dvd player)

I am just wondering if anyone knows if the PS3 can read and play burned blu ray disc, ie. movies?

I know that basically no one has a blu ray burner but I can see in a year or two that they will be cheaper and more mainstream. Then I can see how pissed the movie heads will be when they figure out that blu ray isn't hack proof.

Thanks in advance

well i am not too sure if it would play a direct copy of a bluray disc movie or no as i havent tried that yet.
i have a bluray burner for over a year & i have burnt many divx & hd movies on bluray discs & they play flawlessly on the ps3. when burning you need keep the udf setting as 2.5

maybe if you google a little bit you will find the answer if a direct bluray movie copy will play or no, imo it will work.

Duh, did you guys (not pointing to stormie here!) even bother reading his post before jumping the gun? :|

The PS3 does support the BD-R and the BD-RE media but the problem lies with the media itself. Not all the media available in the market is supported - you need to make do with cherry picking here! Most of the members in the Club MyCE forums suggests the usage of Verbatim, TDK and Sony BD-RE DL media. Besides, the optical drive/lens onboard the PS3 itself may have finicky issues - some reported to have backed up the images on .iso and have played it on a 60GB PS3 but failed to play the same on a 40GB model!

Nah, no way, ps3 can't play burned discs since it is not moded. And no successful ps3 mod out yet. :(

@OP..

It does very well. No issues. Any and all formats possible. didnt check movie BDR's copy though. Dont have one to make copy in the first place. :)..

Maybe Avatar in 3D..:clap:
