Hello everyone, i need some advice.

I have a 2 HDDs
1) Seagate 160gb sata 7200.10 (OS installed on this drive)

2) Seagate 1TB Sata 7200.12 (for storing music movies , other)

i want to know if i buy a new Seagate 250gb Sata 7200.12, and install OS on this drive , will there be any significant improve in performance of OS(Vista). If yes I will sell off 160gb then.

Pls suggest if i shud opt for 7200.12 for OS and sell off my 7200.10 160gb hdd. Will it be a good deal? Will it benifit me?.

partition the 1tb drive for os...the minimum capacity available for 7200.12 is 500GB...there will be difference i have used 7200.10 320/250GB .....

for 7200.12, the least you can get is 500gb...or you can just install the OS on 1tb and then create partitions in it..

seagate normally does 1st 7200.10 was available from 200GB+ now its available 80gb+..initially the .12 was launched for 500,1,1.5

7200.10 was perpendicular recording but they keep on upgrading even in the same series ....as more GBs are packed on the same platter .10 320GB was double platter now its single on .10

:P

I had used Vista 64 bit and Windows XP 32 bit on two seperate .12 seagate drives and I found the OS performance to be better than on my current WD 640GB! The overall response was just so much better than on my current drive! Now i rue the fact that I sold both drives!!

all newer generation 7200rpm drives have performance difference from the older gen ..be it samsung,wd,hitachi or ST .

hi ,

i had both 7200.10 and 7200.12 at one time ....

the 7200.12 one's are faster and cooler than the 7200.10 series

would prefer to have a .12 one for OS drive any day

no onder my fiend was getting 78mb/s and i was getting 55mb/sec while copying a big file ... i was like .. wt the hell !! NOW i knw its that .12 thning !

Gotta buy one of those !

not always ...there was hardly any performance difference between .8 and .9 and sometimes its just negligible

hi buddy ... am getting around 97-100 MB/sec avrage and 175 + MB/sec in burst rate ... on my amd system

which mobo u have ?

no rather go for Phenom II x2 550BE with Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H ..the 785 +710 chipset would in most probability be able to unlock 4 cores of the 550 BE

anyway even if u dont unlock the cores , the 785 is newer chipset so better get this ?

Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H is 5100 bucks at Lynx ( Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H ? Lynx-The Electronics & Computer Superstore )

hey buddy thanks for suggesting but my budget is 4.5k
Follow up thread ASUS M3A78-EM or GA-MA78GM-US2H ?
