I will be sending out mass mailers (around 600 mails in a day). I need to know the following:

_ is mass mailing of this proportion possible / allowed?
_ How do I register my self for a domain for mass mailing?
_ what will be the cost for buying domain space?
_ How do I protect my email id from email spam filters?

Any thing else that I am missing? Just let me know.

regards

Sunil

You can do it but I suggest you should follow two basic rules:

1) Your mail list should me "OPT-IN". bu that I means, every member should have explicitly opeted in to receive email from you

2) At the end of every email, there should a "Unsubscribe" link. by clicking on which people can remove them from list, in just 1 click

_ How do I register my self for a domain for mass mailing?

Why do you need a domain name just for sending email?

_ what will be the cost for buying domain space?

For mass mailing space does not matter, what you need to ask your provide for email sending limit.

_ How do I protect my email id from email spam filters?

If you follow the two basic rules, I stated above. Its a good chance that your IP will not be blacklisted & less people will mark your emails as SPAM/JUNK. so there are less chances that it will get caught in spam filters

You can avoid the hassle of setting up everything by signing up for Email list providers.

@Gaurish Thanks for your replies.

So you mean I do not need to register for a new domain. So can I upgrade my existing email account for sending mass mailers. currently there is a limit of around 150 emails per day. How can I increase the limit on this id?

I would suggest to opt for specialized services which will provide you with the software, dedicated IP and manage everything. the name I can remember right now is sendgrid.com but there are thousands of such providers. let me know if you need more names

Another option is to get a cheap dedicated server, like a celeron which will cost $50USD/per month. shared hosting is useless for mass mailing.

Hmmm...I don't know about the above service but you can use Amazon's newly launched Simple Email Service. Using which you can send 2,000 messages/day at no-charge as per of their Free Tier

Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES). For indian providers, just contact' few of the hosting providers with your needs to send mass marketing emails. few of them have service like that but don't advertise. so all you have to do it ask;)

And stay away from Purchased List Email Marketing Trap at all costs.

We use Email Campaign Hosting from FuseMail.

Payment tiers are based on number of subscribers. Monthly payment. Unlimited emails to each subscriber. Each campaign has it's individual mailing lists. Automatic unsubscribe management.

For each email you send, a fusemail employee will need to approve the message to make sure it does not look like spam and has an unsubscribe link. (The approval take 10-15 minutes)

If you send html emails/links, you can track the email opens/link clicks etc as well.

What would be best solution if one wants to send email (once a week) to around 200 Email IDs (yahoo/hotmail/Gmail) from yahoo email ID ?

Please suggest.

The problem with this is that, a new server (actually the IP) will have no past mail sending history so most of the providers like Yahoo, Hotmail etc may not accept the mail from a new IP assuming it may be SPAM. It will take a while to build up a good history so that the mails from your IP are not throttled.

I had this issue with one of my dedicated servers and I had to contact the Yahoo, Hotmail etc for getting mails from my IP to be accepted which took some time.

So they have using whitelisting instead of blacklisting....interesting.

Please tell what is the procedure to get IP whitelisted with Yahoo,Hotmail etc

^ Yes.

For Yahoo you need to fill and submit the appropriate form from here with your server details etc, after that they will contact you and tell you what to do exactly -- http://help.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/mail/cgi_defer

This is what Hotmail they told when I contacted them

We have identified that messages from your IP (x.x.x.x) are being filtered based on the recommendations of the SmartScreen filter. SmartScreen is the spam filtering technology developed and operated by Microsoft. SmartScreen is built around the technology of machine learning. SmartScreen's filters learn to recognize what is and isn't spam. In short, we filter incoming emails that look like spam. I am not able to go into any specific details about what these filters specifically entail, as this would render them useless.

You need to fill up this form for Hotmail -- https://support.msn.com/default.aspx?productkey=edfsmsbl&st=1&wfxredirect=1 and again after few emails back and forth the mails will get delivered. They might also ask you sign up for some Junk Mail Reporting Program.

For AOL you need to submit this form -- AOL Postmaster | Postmaster

I only did this for the above 3 as at that time majority of the rejected mails were from the above. Gmail seems to be fine if you just setup the SPF records, DKIM authentication etc.
