Posting on behalf of a friend, using Tikona (ISP) who is getting like 700-1000 ping in India servers whenever lady luck shine on him & his internet is working [not more then 2-3 days/week] want to change his ISP, but unfortunately the only alternative available is BSNL in his area.

Is anyone using BSNL from Bangalore to play DOTA 2 ? What are your ping, is it playable ?

let me know you thought / experience .

There are no Indian DOTA 2 servers, only SEA which I presume are hosted in Singapore.
I'm not from Bangalore nor do I use BSNL, but maybe your friend could test the pings before buying the connection. The server address is sgp.valve.net

Perhaps some BSNL user here can ping that address and give you the results too.

BSNL is not good for online gaming as it has a very high ping time which is not suitable. You will get disconnect again and again.

What ISP are you using? If it is BSNL and you're getting 35 to 45 ping, I guess you can expect similar pings to Dota 2 servers. In any case, it doesn't hurt to check. sgp.valve.net is the address.

im on airtel fiber. .. my story is totally different :)
airtel (non-fiber)cant get that rather 50-70, bsnl can't achieve this, the least is 80-120 to sg server form bsnl from my area .
Code:
Pinging sgp.valve.net [103.28.54.1] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 103.28.54.1: bytes=32 time=50ms TTL=56
Reply from 103.28.54.1: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=56
Reply from 103.28.54.1: bytes=32 time=46ms TTL=56
Reply from 103.28.54.1: bytes=32 time=45ms TTL=56

Ping statistics for 103.28.54.1:
  Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
  Minimum = 45ms, Maximum = 51ms, Average = 48ms

80-120 ms latency is playable. Anything within 200 is playable unless you are using heroes like Pudge and Mirana. I have even played in USE/W with 300 ms latency and have done decently.
