I am planning to take 2 connections with sify. One is 64Kbps full day and other 256kbps from 10pm to 8am... I will be using the 256kbps for browsing and the other for browsing during the connection... Actually i am my roomie are taking the connection... I would be connecting both the systems using ICS(Internet connection sharing).
Sify wud be providing 2 Ips one for each connection... They wud require the MAC address to map the Ips. I have thought abt 2 ways of connecting...
1. Keep one of the 2 systems as server and till 10pm in the night use 64kbps and after that use 256kbps. This wud mean that i will have to give the same MAC address for both the connection and I will need to restart the system when changing the connection to change the IP. Or i cud give MAC address of each NIC for each connection and use the other NIC that is free to connect to the other comp
Adv - Only IP change will be required. DisAdv - 64kbps cannnot be used in the night... it wud go waste...
2. Connect each to each comp and use it as a server for that connection. So for 64kbps comp1 will be server and Comp2 will client. so Comp1 NIC1 will have sify IP and Comp2 NIC1 should be configured so that it gets IP automatically... 256 kbps will be connected to Comp2 NIC2 and Comp1 will be the client at this time. which basically means that
Comp1 NIC1 will have IP from Sify
Comp1 NIC2 will get IP from Comp2's NIC1
Comp2 NIC1 will have IP from Sify
Comp2 NIC2 will get IP from Comp1's NIC1
This will mean that i need an extra NIC but i can use both 64kbps and 256kbps at the night if required. But i will have to remove the connection between the 2 systems at that time...
Now comes my doubt... will the second setup work? will windows support it? Which amoung these are better?? or is there any other ideas that u guys have???
Now u might ask why i am taking 2 connections... as i can go for 256kbps full time instead of 2 connections... well the answer is taking 2 connections is cheaper by 100 bucks and during day time i think that 64kbps is enuf for browsing... and i get 256kbps + 64kbps for downloading in the night... and the 2 of us are going to share the conn so it comes to 450 per month for both of us... guys give me some advice on the setup...
