I have been playing NFS:HP for some time and i do good in straights but every time there is a u turn all the opponents are drifting at very good speed i am also drifting but not quite getting the speed that they are achieving. I generally drift on the outer site of the turn.

What line should i approach the corner ? when to throttle and when to brake and when to counter steer to get the maximum speed out of the turn ?

First let us know whether you game on Gamepad or Keyboard.

Always try staying in the outer site of the turn while drifting. Keep the vehicle always at good speed. Hit the brakes or handbrakes, which ever you are comfortable with. Slowly start counter steering and continuously start switching between steer and counter steering to effect a proper drift.

Dumb game!! Use handbrakes while keeping your acceleration in control... the handling of this games cars isnt good as said by many people.

EA is just loosing its prized game and i fear its development may come at a halt sooner within 2-3 yrs. As nfs has failed to impress audience after most wanted. And yr after yr its loosing its market in racing arcade and the obvious public.

Myself been a die hard fan of nfs series cant bid boodbye to nfs..

Had the same issue...then i realized that drifting lowered my speed considerably...started banging into small corners while letting go off the throttle and only so much as a light squeeze on the brake for tighter corners...when i followed this tactic i realized i was unconsciously racing along the invisible racing line that the AI followed...and since the AI is basically programmed to stick to the racing line at corners they'd slow down behind me or try passing which would cost them speed thus allowing me to keep the lead...hope this helps

Currently using keyboard. I can drift any corner without spinning out or crashing to the edge of road. My problem is how can i get the maximum speed out of the turn. keeping to the outer side of the turn i have to drift more that is making me slow.

That game is lousy beyond belief.

The handling is keyed to an aggressive and late-braking driving style, the kind that causes the high-profile crashes we typically see the sons of industrialists, businessmen and cricketers go through in expensive vehicles - and a few lives lost.

Anyway.

You aim at the apex just enough for your car to hit it.

Then you brake slightly.

And start accelerating before the apex so you drift past it as your wheels lose traction.

Remember this game has rubberband AI. Which means no matter how fast you drive they will catch up with you if you're ahead.

And if you're behind, you can plan your route so you hang back and only make the last sector count.

Stupid dam game, specially against AI.

However the quickest way around, even in a game with such loose physics, is still to carry max speed around the apex with the maximum speed out of the corner. When you drift through a corner you will always come out slower at the other end.

That explains why i am no able to win easily compared to other racing games. But the cars in this game are amazing never seen such a large variety of cars in any game.

Been a while since i played that game, but IIRC, the physics are modeled in such a way that the slightest flick will have your rear trying to swap places with the front and with a bit of opposite lock you can easily keep the car "drifting" for miles. Hit the sweet spot and the game will magically accelerate the car for you - and then dab the nitrous to straighten back the car. Not sure how this is done with a keyboard though. I remember the game being some good arcade fun especially multiplayer, and can be enjoyed if played with the right set of expectations.

I follow this exact technique..it maintains the torque and speed and if opponent car tries to hit you, it is thrown off but no matter what you dont loose your grip. Bt a slight here n there and you will be seeing yourselves flying and ramming here and there.
