DS is for kids , PSP for teenagers / adults

ESRB rates them as everyone...as in everyone is suitable to play. Almost all games are E rated. It doesnt qualify as "handheld for kids"
 
^^ dude....we are talking about psp Vs. Nitendo ds....not psp Vs. Wii....how come wii came into the picture when its a silly handheld discussion

Their problem with the Wii version had more to do with the motion sensing controls(the way it is played) rather than the fact that it is by Nintendo.

Ok guys i dont own a DS so i really dont understand why ppl say DS rocks.

Instead of just posting game titles can the DS fans please tell me whats so special about the DS , really wud like to know :)

Whats the fun factor in DS.

most of the DS guys have both a DS and a PSP , atleast nukey has both.[AFAIK]

I would back PSP for its graphics , media playback awesome game titles

which i really dont need to explain as they are also released for the PC

and the consoles.

I hardly know any DS game title except for mario as i have played it a lot.
 
^^ well technically speaking:

DS uses 800mAh battery but lasts upto 10 hours. It has dual 3 inch touch screen which does change a lot for portable gaming. Sales wise, DS did own psp's record sales this past november 2007 (Source is wikipedia).

Graphics wise, psp is good. Great and bright screen. But all thanks to dual touch screen, it is a different experience.

Ok, this is the important thing here. There are games on the DS that are not possible with PSP.

For example

Trauma Center DS - It's a game where you play a surgeon. The lower screen will have the different patients and you perform surgery by using your stylus on the touch screen as a scalpel/needle+sutures etc.

Legend of Zelda-Twilight Princess - Game played only with the touch screen. To us a boomerang, for example,you click on you character and draw it's path on screen to solve puzzles/hit enemies.

Kirby Canvas Curse - Side scroller played using touch screen alone.

Metroid Prime-Hunters - The best FPS controls outside of the PC I have seen. Gameplay on the top screen. Use the bottom screen as map+pointer control and shoulder buttons for shooting. Really intuitive controls. (Will play Metroid Prime Corruption opn the Wii this weekend. Lets see if it's better. :D)

And there are lots of conventional games that benifit from the controls.

Strategy games. (Advance Wars / SRPGs and JRPGS). Moving of units and placement becomes easier.
Inventory management in adventure games becomes easier.

And last but not the least, it is perfect for classic adventure games. Stuff like Myst on the PC work very well because of the nice point and click gameplay that is possible.

meteos anyday blows away lumines

metriod prime blows away any shooter on the psp

you can play scummVM games with touchscreen on the DS :D ... no dragging your arrow with the arrow keys all over the place

psp doesnt have any flagship mascot like mario

roms are max 128mb

ds cant handle racing sims, psp much better for that

psp can play psx isos

requires only software mod to run isos

good choice if you want a movie+music player also but a bit too big&fragile to be portable

you own a psp but fall in love with your DS

I think you just pointed out what is so great about the DS. Most of the PSP titles are there to be played on the PS2. Most of the DS titles end up being DS exclusives by default.

To put it simply if you want to play the best titles DS has to offer you need to own a DS. A better console (for me) will always be the one with more exclusives.

Having said that I will be getting a PSP slim late this month and I am looking to sell my DS phat and R4DS card. :D

Edit: And I bet good money the thread poster is the youngest one here. So much for his PSP for grown ups argument.
