Here's the deal now.I had applied for my MTNL connection almost a month & a half back.Now I just got a call from them today stating that if I wanted to get it connected as they have alloted me a port.I had initially opted for this connection as Pacenet had divided our Hub & much to my surprise it just got revived a few days back.:clap:

Now I am in a quandary.I need the night unlimited scheme from MTNL too & at the same time retaining my existing LAN connection for Pacenet.Now my question is can I have 2 separate ISP's on one PC.I have 2 LAN cards with me at the moment & wanted to know if I can plug both of their LAN cables in at the same time without any issue.I would be using MTNL's line mostly for surfing & dowloading at night & Pacenet's LAN to download stuff from my hub.Now is this physically & virtually possible? What will be the after effects(if any)? My current Pacenet connection is on Dynamic IP for LAN & AFAIK same goes for MTNL.So just want to know will there be any problems later on? :S
 
Well if you're using Vista it can certainly bridge 2 connections.. I'm not exactly sure how traffic will be divided among them though... i'll look up some stuff and get back to you... :)
 
Assuming you will be using it on two different LAN cards,I dont see any problem whatsoever with this setup!

i think you haev second computer or one rig ?
 
Hi,

You can plug in two different NICs in same PC.

You can enable and disable LAN connections from properties of My Network Places to use different internet connections as per your requirement. Since different LAN cards can have their own TCP/IP configurations there won't be any problem.

Won't this solve your problem ?
 
Yes Definately u can have two isp one one PC with two lan cards. What is the operating system u a re using right now....??
 
Wat u'l find really difficult is downloading say a single torrent with both the connections..but yea u'l be abe to plug in both the connections...
 
As i said before.. Vista gives a bridge networks feature that you can use to bridge two connections.. whether it works on two isp'a i don't know but i don't see ne reason why it won't work.. What i can't figure out is how to divide traffic b/w the two isp's... I don't suppose you can have both of them as UL plans?? Then there'll be no probs wutever isp gets the traffic.. But if one's UL and the other's not then... :ashamed: :huh:
 
one if you are planning to use MTNL connection at night & orther one at day time, its fine, just disable the one you don't wanna use:)

else you need to do some config in os part, so if you need to balance load equaly on both connection then you need things like load balacer routers which are alien india, and will burn hole in your pocket:bleh:

Tht's the simplest way.. disable one of them.. but shoudn't that be possible in software mode itself? Considering VISTA is bridging the connections it should also be able to divide traffic.. I don't have a secondary LAN rite now so can't check.. Will be able to when i get back to my hostel on monday... One other question though.. wut's pacenet??? :ashamed: :huh:
 
Thanks a ton for the reply guys.Just a few things that you people were looking out for was OS verion I was using which would be MS Windows XP Professional(SP2).I am not planning to use Pacenet for internet at all.I won't be buying their internet packs once I get this MTNL night unlimited scheme.So it won't be connecting to the internet at all & would only be used as a stand-alone LAN connection for DC++ handling purposes.Now can I run this setup simultaneously without disabling each other? Will my ODC client be able to pick up my Pacenet connection after this setup(since there will be 2 LAN configurations then)?

Anyways I was thinking on the same lines of disabling one from Network connections when not in use.Any other difficulties that I might come across?

@Rahul: Pacenet is a shitty ISP in Mumbai which provides standard "HIGH SPEED BROADBAND" internet connections via cable a la Sify.
