Assuming u have bootable disks u will first need to go to bios (by pressing delete key during bootup) and in the boot device priority place cd-rom/dvd-rom as the first priority bootup device , insert ur bootable disk , press any key when it says press any key to boot from cd , u will be taken to the menu after few mins , select the option for install new copy , select the partitition u want to install the OS on (hope partitions are created on ur drive else dat wil be anoder procedure for u) , and say quick format the drive (preferably using ntfs format as incase u need to copy single file greater then 4.7gb fat32 will not let u ), pc wil restart then let the os bootup dont press any key in the boot screen , select ur timezone wen asked for , enter ur credentials (machine name , password if u want to set , network name if u want to set) , enter valid cd key and let the installation finish .

Incase its ur first time would recommend you to call ur friend and have it done for u .

Install windows xp then windows 7 .

In short first install xp in c-drive, then 7 in drive d.

Bootup screen will show both the os, select the one you want to boot.

You can install both in any order,e.e, you can install xp 1st or you can install win 7 1st. Just do the installations by boot able discs of both the OSes. Once both are installed in separate drives, boot into either OS and install EasyBCD. With this software reinstall the boot loader of the other OS. Its really easy to use EasyBCD, i'm sure anyone can figure it out. And voila! You have dual boot. Assuming that you have a boot loader missing from the boot menu to one of the OSes after installing both the OSes.

You are not wrong. I follow the same method: Win XP first and then Win 7.

I don't have both OSes on my PC. But have done this a number of times for friends. BTW, why does the OP need both Win XP and Win 7??

Yea, install xp first and then just install 7 in another partition/drive , you dont need easybcd.

This is how i installed my xp/7 dualboot

Thanks for yr help. I have installed Win XP and Win 7. But the problem is that I hv 4 GB ram and XP is showing me 2.99 GB Ram whereas in Win7 it is showing 3.85 GB Ram.

Is this because XP is 32 bit and Win7 is 64 bit OS (with me). Pls tell, even if XP is 32 bit, is it able to use the full 4 GB ram or how to correct it?

Secondly, I had put in XP as games of my kids will be put in XP and I will be using Win7 for personal use...

Lastly is there any other OS which is good for kids and that can be installed with XP & Win7 in 3 OS boots...?

Yes the ram issue is due to the platform version of the OS. Aru you using some onboard gpu, as it might be sharing 256mb ram, and because of this 7 is showing 3.88gb instead of 4gb, same in case of xp.

Regarding another os for kids, IMO XP is the best os for beginners and for gaming as well:)
