My DVD drive was working fine till like 3 weeks back when my old 8600GT died. I disconnected DVD drive and rebooted to isolate the gfx problem. Once confirmed, I gave the connection back, installed my new 5850 and restarted.

Power is fine. I can eject the dvd tray, but neither windows 7 nor the Bios recognize the drive.

I rechecked the connections, dvd drive has the power supply connector and the data cable connected. I even removed them and reconnected, but still the drive is not recognized.

I don't know the model number of the drive, only that it is a samsung dvd drive.

Any advice?

Try some other cable and if that fails too try some other port. If that too doesn't helps may be the drive has gone faulty.

^^^^ try the above methods and at last try that drive on your friends pc, else give it to Raddi walla :P
