I want to buy a DVD player this diwali (2morrow). Please suggest models/ make. Do'nt need much fancy addons. But it should play all formats including CD, VCD, DVD etc... Budget 4-5 K.:hap5:

I am also thinking of buying Philips DVP5965K/98...but the product specifications says it doesnt support xvid. someone help me.

XVID is supported.... I bought a 5965 for someone recently. My xvid videos played perfectly fine.

The player has USB support, does it play from external USB hard drive ?

The Sound specifications of 5965k/98 seems lower than 5106k/97.

I am posting Sound specifications of both the player

5965k/98
Sound
• Crosstalk (1kHz): 70 dB
• D/A converter: 24 bit, 192 kHz
• Distortion and Noise (1kHz): 65 dB
• Dynamic Range (1kHz): 80 dB
• Frequency response: 30-20000 Hz
• Signal to noise ratio: 90
• Sound System: Dolby Digital (DTS will be added after firmware update)

5106k/97
Sound
• D/A converter: 192kHz/24-bit
• Signal to noise ratio: 95 dB
• Distortion and Noise (1kHz): 80 dB
• Crosstalk (1kHz): 90 dB
• Dynamic Range (1kHz): 85 dB
• Sound System: Dolby Digital, DTS
• Sound Enhancement: 3D Virtual Surround, Night Mode, Smart Sound

Please tell me wats all this.

What speakers are you connecting it to? If you are using a receiver, those figures are meaningless.

but hey, no DTS on the 5965k/98, at least not yet it seems . isnt that a big minus?

I am connecting to a receiver via coaxial output.

then i suppose the noise figures are irrelevant :)

Here is a review of the player.Seems like the image quality is very good but the sound is bit of a problem:(

@Chaos, can you please confirm me from your friend about Philips DVP 5965K/98 having dts support from beginning or after firmware update.
