know where i can find good quality +r dl media in mumbai/india?

i want to burn xbox360 backups at 2.4x, but want to purchase 4x-8x rated media as that might ensure better quality -- any feedback regarding brands, prices, availability would be appreciated.

Verbatim, nothing else. Call Ankush Kukreja (search in this forum, you'll find his number)
You have a modchip? Or can the x360 take backed up games as well? Just curious..

done! my x360 with a sammy flashed to xtreme 2.0 fw. now i tried burning the 4 game backups i *ahem* 'made' using my benq 1640 and cheapass melody 2.4x dvd+r dl media - guess what? it does not work!

okay chaos, tech-head, freaky - where can i get my hands on an asus 1608p3/p3s or a pioneer 111/111d burner? the asus can be cross flashed to the pioneer and this burner has something called layer jump technology that makes very readable discs for the xbox360 dvdrom drives.

but then again i need HIGH HIGH quality +dl media. cmon feedback. fast!

:-)

off to buy a few verbatim/mitsubishi 2.4x dvd-r dl and 4x dvd+r dl from ankush - will try these media on the benq at a slow 2x burn speed and check whether the x360 likes them or not.

otherwise i need the pioneer/asus drive - contact details/pricing/availability anyone????

The ASUS 1608P3S is available for 2.1K in Chennai. Its widely available, so gettting it should not be a problem.

components for a successful xbox 360 hack :)

1. xbox 360 core system US version with samsung drive - available in india for around 21k

2. decent dvd burner + good quality media - asus 1608p3s is recommended as it's a rebadged pioneer 111 series (layer jump technology); but my benq 1640 works well WITH good quality dvd+r dl media - verbatim 2.4x MCM001 media code (2.5k approx for burner & 300 bucks per disc)

3. Torx T10 screwdriver - available in 30-40 piece multikits costing about Rs 150-200

4. PC with compatible SATA chipset - onboard ICH5/6, Nforce4 = high success rate. I used a gigabyte 875 board

5. croc clips to ensure proper grounding between xbox 360 and pc chassis'

6. xtreme firmware - easy to find on the net. i used the original xtreme firmware for the samsung drive (recommended to use the auto flasher version instead)

7. games - dumped my *cough* original *cough* xbox 360 discs and made backups...yeah right!
misc tidbits:

ripping apart the xbox takes about 10 minutes tops - it's easy, search online for howto video guides...

installing the new firmware was the only process where i experienced 'heart in mouth' syndrome. but it was more excitement than anything else...

remember that sometimes your backed dvds might not work -- if you are dumping the games yourself, follow the instructions to the letter. if you 'obtained' the isos, well most pre-patched releases have some damaged security sector keys (ss.bin) - figure out how to remove the bad keys and insert the proper keys (easy to find) into the iso...

firstly use clonecd, if that fails to burn your disc, give imgburn a try.

read forums at maxconsole and xboxscene diligently.

now there's just one thing to consider - the price of the xbox core system might be reduced or MS might change their bundle in the next 3 months owing to the launch of the PS3/Wii. also the indian xbox360 might get cheap india region locked game discs - currently most games in the us retail for around $50-$60, and about $30-40 in asian regions, hence there is a possibility that MS might price indian region locked xbox360 games for Rs 999-1,999.

OR MS might follow sony's psp route, where new games include firmware/dashboard updates that will disable these exploits or prevent you from using their Live service (the psp is a must have after the release of DH0.4x btw)

whatever be the case, there are about 20-odd AA/AAA titles available for the xbox 360 that work using this method. that's good enough for now.

best,

wow, X360 can play backups already?

Not long before the market finds this hack and exploits it in a commercial way now I suppose.
