You will need winavi to rip the dvd.
You can find it here AVI to DVD, 3GP/MP4/PSP/iPod Video Converter, DVD Copy, AVI to MPEG!
1. In winavi click on avi from the menu.
2. Select the Dvd from your Dvd drive and automatically 'Open as DVD' will be highlighted. (It is preferred that you make an '*.iso' image of your dvd and then load it on a virtual drive because this will keep your dvd rom busy for only about 10 - 15 minutes but using the actual DVD will keep your DVD rom busy for a very long time which can't be good for your DVD drive).
3.Below you will see a drop down menu which will help you select the type of output files. Here select 'Merge into 1 file'
4.Now you will see 'Advanced' as an option. Click on it.
5.In the left panel select 'Build-in Decoder'. This is a must if the dvd contains subtitles and audio in more than one language.
6.In the right panel there is a drop down menu. Select your input file. It will create 3 rows if subtitles are present and 2 if no subtitles are included. The 1st row is for Video, 2nd is for audio and 3rd is for subtitles. There will be 2 columns 'Stream type' & 'Stream Select'. Leave the video as it is. In Audio Select 'Stream_1' and see below in 'Stream Information' panel to check the language. Select your language for rip by selecting various streams. In the third row which is for subtitles select the language in which ou want subtitles and none if you don't want any.
7.Now, click on 'AVI encoder' in left panel. In the right panel you will see various options now. Under codec select the video and audio codec you want to use in your avi file. Depending on the codec the inal file size may differ to some extent. If you want to burn it onto cds you can use 'File Split' option and set the size as 701 mb. Video Frame Rate: You can reduce the no. of frames to reduce the size of the file 25 frames isn't bad but keep the original frame rate as fast scenes may look a bit jumpy. Picture Size: Need to a do a bit of mathematics if you don't want to screw the ratio of the video (Use cross multiplication using width/height to find height for your new width or width for new height).
8.Now that you have done all of this just click on 'OK' in the advanced menu and 'Any to Avi' menu. Sit back and let the computer do it's work.
