This question (which DVD Wrier) has been asked abt a zillion times on TE.

And each time, just abt every person replies like this

"Go for BenQ 1640" or "BenQ 1640 rocks" or " BenQ 1640 is the way to go" and so on.

Just search TE and you will know....

Even now, everyone will rpely in this thread just copy pasting the same reply :P (REmember the HBO free DVD thread guys?? :P)

I find samsung TSS models and LG 4167/b equally good....
my optical needs are very limited, (once a week or so i use it.) hence for speed and disk compatibility issues i cannot comment much ...since reliable data backup and restore is more important to me ....

deejay I dunno about your experiences with samsung but till date I had ejection problems with all samsung drives. I would never recommend samsung for that reason alone :(

Surprisingly samsung TSS models are quite good. (TSS is the collaboration between samsung and Toshiba, the same one which is gonna manufacture the blu-ray drives too.)

it has lasted me 14 months till now :ohyeah: ...(otherwise the average was about 8 months before..):ashamed:

Benq 1640 was not avialable in LR a few days back hence i bought a LG 4167/B OEM for 2725/- and it is pretty good too. very quiet.

and it is true....many distributors and shopkeepers do not keep Benq models they say " There is no demand for Benq drives .....:( " so they do not stock it. atleast in LR mumbai....

That is what my dealer told when I got the samsung cd writer ( has a blue label. powered by sat technology) The box said in collaboration with Toshiba. The dive gave the same ejection problem in 10 months time. The drive makes hell lot of noise while reading cds (sounds like old phat phat :P )

no i dont leave cd in drive.

reg ejection problems, the drive randomly pops out sometimes(older models). The toshiba ones had the oldie goldie problem, the tray wont go in when i press the eject button, i had to push it manually. I had this particular problem and many of my other friends also had the same problem with all models. Sometimes they work fine but this problem starts after 7-8 months time or sometimes after a year for many people.

Which dvd writer would be better-BENQ1640 OR LG

LG 4167/b and Benq 1640 are both good. But most have benq here. A person in cdfreaks got 0 PIF on TY with the LG drive. LG aint that bad plus if u are looking for RAM media support LG supports all formats ( -R, +R, RAM)

I have Benq 1640 as LG is not that widely available here.
