The lens-cleaners that are available in most shops never worked for me! Neway, #psybronik, your writer is kaput! If it can still read well and you don't need it much for burning, live with it.

Else, getting a new one is the only option. New ones come for as low as 900 these days.

^^ Just like humans, all tech products have a life and they too grow old. Sometimes, our grandparents simply grow old and pass away without anything bad happening to them. Similar is the case with your DVD writer... It grew old and passed away. May it's soul rest in peace.

Yes . Newer drives have a low shelf life. Even when not used that often.

My sony dvd writer Gave away exactly one year and a day later.

Might have written about 20 dvds i guess.

Samsung used regularly lasted more than 3 years. Wrote about 200 of them. Now it does not write cds and some dvds one off stop writing in between.

^^ It happened differently in my case. 2 of my Samsung writers went kaput in slightly over 1 year time. My Sony is going great even after 1.5 years! One can never predict anything about these drives!

how is the performance of liteon drives...i will be buying that for writing my xbox games .... as suggested by the modders... you guys have any idea about the performance of this drive ???

I have never used Liteon personally but I never heard any bad reviews for it either. Try and let us know!

In any case, it'll carry a 1 year warranty. So, even if it goes kaput within a year, you'll still be safe!
