Helo,
I am having quite a problem with Sony DVd-RAM writer 18X,when the Disc CD or DVD is inserted the writer produces rotating sound and light also when CD is used, but does'nt show light when DVDs are inserted contaning contents. reads all Cds but when inserted file content DVds it says on my computer CD Drive(instead of Showing DVD RAM Drive as usual when nothing is in the drive bay) and shows 0 content and 0 MB, why.

First check the DVD's somewhere else, I mean on friends PC to see whether they are working. BTW it's common with DVD Drives....Many drives doesn't recognize some DVD's. And if it's not recognizing any of the DVD's and the DVD's are working on your Friends PC, then it's time to get a new DVD Writer.
 
VEry ,Very sorry for replying so lately because after checking some other content Cd's got stuck in some other problem regarding courses,so by the way thanks for telling, and why only the DVDs are not playing CDs run and also burned with software like Photo DVD maker Professional 8.0 etc
 
As krishnandu have said, its a common problem for dvd-rws, try cleaning its lens else its time to go for shopping
 
sorry for capturing this thread i am also facing a similar problem

when i insert dual layer discs in my dvd writer it does not detect them or even if it detects my computer hangs

then i have to remove the dvd and then computer works perfectly again

when i insert blank dl disks it detects them but they are not burnt properly and my 3 dl dvd s were wasted

note: those dvd s are checked on other computer and my dvd writer is 3 years old

please advice me that is it worth purchasing a dvd lens cleaner for 100 bucks

or should i get a new dvd writer.
