Storage Solutions DVD writer problem

Well the LG dvd writer suddenly stopped reading dual layer discs. Therefore I opened it & cleaned it.
After I put it back It still could not read dual layer discs (Shows empty drive). Now even it stopped detecting the dvd/cd data. I mean it does detects the dvd (single layer) but shows the disc is empty which infact is not the case.
Please help if you have any information regarding it.

I am planning to get a new burner. How is this one?

Go with a simple DVD-RW and save some cash.
Asus 24B5ST DVD-RW -1100.
Nowadays ODD are not of much use.

I have 6 year old liteon dvdrw. It has been almost 3 years now i inserted any cd/dvd in it but that day for installing OS i tried a dvd and it failed. But it does read any cd thrown at it with ease... These experiences are common with dvd optic drives. Dvd lens gets weaker if not used regularly but cds can still be read even after 15 years....trust me!! As I also tried good old creative cdrom 40x after 14yrs and it still did read some cds...

I sometimes think to buy a dvdrw as it comes handy but i always use ghost for restoring my OS images so i hardy need it...
