BF2 and NFS:MW dynamic shadow rendering issues with ATi RADEON series
It seems that there are a few dynamic shadow rendering issues with the games BattleField 2 v1.12 and Need for Speed: Most Wanted. It is not an isolated incident as we have noticed that many users are complaining about these issues in various forums around the world. We have also discovered that this problem applies to the entire RADEON family (7x00/8x00/9x00/Xx00/X1x00).
Apparently the source of the problem lies between the Catalyst driver and the aforementioned games, which means that a hot-fix or patch is required to solve the situation. We have decided to give the games a try with the following specifications:
Hardware:
* AMD64 FX55 * Gigabyte GA-K8NS-939 (nForce3) for 9800* ASUS A8N-SLI (nForce4) for X850/X1800* ATi RADEON 9800 XT AGP* ATi RADEON X850 PCIe* ATi RAEDON X1800 XT PCIe
Software:
* Microsoft Windows XP SP2* NVIDIA nForce Drivers v6.70* ATi Catalyst 5.11b-5.13 for X1800 * ATi Catalyst 5.5-5.13 for 9800XT and X850* BattleField 2 v1.12* Need for Speed: Most Wanted v1.00
Be advised that we used the latest patch for BattleField 2 and these issues may not appear in the first version of the game. However, BattleField 2 is a multiplayer game and you’re required to use the latest patch to play it online. In the pictures below, you can see we experienced these shadow issues too.
We know that ATi’s software department is working hard, so it’s probably just a matter of a few days before all these issues will be gone. Both games are published by EA and we couldn’t find any workarounds on their website (personally I find it a bit “strange†to have the same issues with two games published by the same company). Anyway, if you happen to know of any magical workarounds for this problem please post it in this thread.
